Just autotraced a part from the movie. It would be great if the conveying message wasn't about consumerism, though the "weapon of choice" isn't so clean.

Hm, my first association with 'They Live' would be brainwashing, but i guess consumerism is the same thing (Hello Edward Bernays).

The thing i find funny is how these hipster logos use and glamorise fifities aestethics, which is, in my opinion, not exactly the hippest era of the last century.

I think it's odd this is an internet trend (hipster, hipster logo, etc.)  Not that I really get around much anymore, but I haven't seen any trend like this on, e.g. television advertising.  At least not b&w.  Of course there a minimalistic ads, but not b&w or similar.

Yaaaay, you're back !!!   

I think this trend has a lot to do with the programs they are made with. They are easy to make, yet you can ramp up the complexity.
And if you have a look at the tutorials this "Manny" guy does, all his videos are between 15-25min long, and he does really the simplest stuff for PS beginners.
So theres a certain appeal.

Have you ever seen the documentary about Helvetica ?
It shows why this typeface was such a revolution especially in contrast what was the usual style before Helvetica.

It also applies to minimalism. And i think Lazur nailed it.
