Hi Friends,
I just added a new feature for the forum.  Now in your profile, you can choose which Inkscape version you use.

I don't know if this will help much, for all those newbies who we have to ask....  Hhm, but there might be a way to make it work.

Well for now, go to Profile tab > Forum Profile.  At the bottom, you'll see this new option.  It already is showing that you're using 0.92.x, but you have to click the Change Profile button to make it take effect and start showing up in your profile.  (Or choose a different version, but either way, don't forget to click Change Profile.)

The only way to make sure that new members set that option, is to put it in the registration form (which is entirely possible).  But since it would be too overwhelming (imo) to list all possible Inkscape versions, I've just used the major versions.  However, there may be cases where knowing more than the major version is important.  So we might still have to ask sometimes.

Another option would be to use major version numbers for the past stable versions, but only use the bug fix releases (what are they called, "point releases"??) for the current stable.  But still, using 0.48 as an example, that could add as many as 5 more radio buttons.

Oh, but I see there's a dropbox option.  Maybe that could work?  Let's see if I can figure that out  :-D

Actually, you should wait until I set up the dropbox feature, to set your version.  Or else you'll have to do it again, after I change it.  Should be soon....

Ok, now try it.

Any comments, complaints?

It's not added to the registration page yet.   Just want to see if there are any negative effects or comments, before I do that.

I changed some options here, so that the Inkscape version and os looks more like a signature (although technically it's placed above the sig).

And I've disabled the browser and os detection mod that I had before.  So now the browser and os do not appear in the profiles.  But the more relevant Inkscape version and os will appear, as long as members enable those options in the profile.  I always felt a little spy-like with the browser and os detection before, because it was done without the member permission.  And plus we never needed the browser info, only os.

Those profile options now appear on the reg form.  I didn't make it mandatory for people to fill them in.  But I've been surprised how many people were filling in the Inkscape version.  So I think it will be used more often than not.

I could make it mandatory (to fill them in), but then I feel like it's invading members' privacy, in case they would rather not share.  So this settles some issues for me about potential snooping concerns.  And hopefully it will make the forum more relevant for providing support.

Please let me know if you have any issues or concerns, or if you notice any problems resulting from these changes.

All best  :)
