Classical hatch patterns for mechanical drawings

Dear all,

I am new to the forum so I hope I am posting something useful. I created a set of classical mechanical hatch patterns, which can be used in drawings for e.g. patents. I also include the Python script with which I created them, and a document on how it was done.

Oh, that's very nice!  Thanks for posting!

I wonder if you've seen the Inkscape website (inkscape.org)?  If you register there, you can upload the images and other files into the gallery.  There's a special section for pattern files, which you can see is rather empty:  https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=inkscape-pattern-file/  They will reach a lot more people there!

Although if you'd rather not, I'm sure search engines will find them here, soon enough 

I'm sure those will be useful for some Inkscape users.  Thanks for sharing them!

Thanks for the positive feedback. I just posted the SVG file there, but there seems to be no possibility to post the document on how people can use these patterns and how I made the patterns with Python and the Python script itself. Do you know if there is a platform to share these, so people can modify and extend if they want to?

People have found different ways to share other kinds of files.  There is an option to provide an outside link (a text link "Link").  Or you can also put a url link into the description.  If you don't have your own web space, you could use a good file sharing site (dropbox is popular).  Or you're also welcome to link to them here.

Here's an example where someone used both kind of links (although this is an extension).  https://inkscape.org/en/~Moini/%E2%98%85multi-bool-extension-cut-difference-division

Or....I'm not sure if it's possible to upload a zip file....I don't know why not.  If so, you could put them all in a zip file, and upload that.  And then use a thumbnail image to display what the patterns look like.  And then use the description to explain what's in the zip file.  Oh, actually I see they changed the upload form from "Choose thumbnail" to "Choose visible image"

The patterns section of the gallery only accepts SVG.

I posted the other files in a ZIP in the tutorial section of the gallery:

This section is not sensitive about the kinds of attachments. I think this seems to work.

Hhm, I'm not sure why the Patterns section only accepts SVG.  But that was a good idea to use Tutorials for the other files!

I'm sure people will find use for them.  Downloaded 3 times already

It's because the section is meant for files that you put into the patterns directory, for use directly with Inkscape.
Just like extensions, filters, symbol sets,... It wouldn't make sense for a symbol set to be a pdf file, and it wouldn't make sense for a pattern file for Inkscape to be a zip file.

But in this case, HenkJan had several related files.  If they would be uploadable as zip, she (or he?) could include instructions to extract the zip file, and install the SVG in the proper place.
