Title: Can't turn off semi-transparent shapes.

Okay, I have a new issue. I'm in a drawing and now I want to create a rectangle that's completely opaque. I can't seem to do it.

In the lower left I noticed next to the Fill/Stroke that O: was originally set to 30% which I THOUGHT explained this. So I turned it to 100% and, sure enough the shapes I created were much less transparent, but NOT entirely! Even at 100% I can easily see through the shapes to everything behind them.

What the heck did I do wrong?

I THINK I have this figured out, but I don't get it.

The Opacity I mentioned was set to 100% but the Fill was set to 240, not 255. I assume I must have done this previously? I've never bothered with those sliders and even in a New doc they stay that way which is highly confusing....

These values are saved in your Inkscape preferences, not in the respective document. Yes, it's probable that you had set them before.
If you double click on any tool icon, you can access and change the default settings for that tool - or make it use the last used style.
