Title: Installing on Mac OS X.6.8 - need MacPorts and XQuartz?
Post by: gordophysio on February 21, 2019, 09:02:43 AM
I searched for the correct version for my older Mac. What I found was also some info on needing MacPorts and XQuartz. I cannot find a way to "install" MacPorts. XQuartz and Inkscape seemed to install OK. The program works but many functions don't. Can someone enlighten me?
Thanks! :-(

Welcome to the forum!

If you can't handle the MacPorts or HomeBrew or whatever, I suggest the DMG package.  On this page, you can pick which one is best for your Mac system version:  https://inkscape.org/release/0.91/mac-os-x/  Be sure to read all the info on the page of the one you choose, about how to install it.  Also, you'll want to read through these FAQs, and follow the ones that apply to you  https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#mac-os-x-specific-issues

Supposedly there is a DMG package for 0.92, but I can't find it.

Thanks Brynn! I did have that version. Didn't know about the X11 settings obviously. Just tried it and don't see any difference yet, but will try the other fixes when I have time... :ty1:

Uhm, maybe the one linked from the text on this page: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-0.92.4/

What doesn't work?

What doesn't work is that I clicked on the "Build Inkscape on your Mac with MacPorts" button above that text, before I saw the text.  If I were an ordinary Mac user, I would not immediately be interested to read the Release Notes, and just want to get to the download file.  So I follow what looks like the intended navigation route.

Plus, I thought it was 0.92.  I didn't realize is was 0.92.2.  So when I was searching, I wasn't looking in the right place.

I'll try to remember better next time.
