Title: How to export path removing occluded path?
Post by: raphaelpoli on January 30, 2018, 12:01:39 PM
Hello, we would like to export a svg for carving in laser cutter without the fill colors.
But we don't want the lines bellow filled areas to be carved, so we would like to remove those lines automatically.
Boolean is too long, we would prefer to export to png and vectorize outlines only.
But we would prefer not to be obliged to revectorize in order to get the precise outline.
Hope I express the problem clearly enough.
Does that procedure/plugin exist in inkscape?
Thanks!

Based on the information provided, I'm afraid the answer is 'no'.

These are the only ways I know to get an outline for cutting:

-- Path menu > Union (boolean)
-- use Pen/Bezier tool and trace
-- import PNG and use Trace Bitmap

If we could see your file, we might be able to suggest some shortcuts.  For example, what if you select only the parts of the drawing which make up the outline, and move them either to another layer, or another file.  Then maybe Union would not take so much time?  Or there might be other ways.  But it's impossible to guess -- we need to see the SVG file.
