Post by: theguyman on August 27, 2018, 06:08:49 PM
Hi ive been using inscape for 1 and a half year how you place a node just by itself then add another one and another to that unit by clicking to automaticly connect them to make pointy shapes
heres what i mean in the picture  :bow1: :???: :f5: :hd: :clap1: :2tu: :f5: :rtfm: :duh: :b1: :-P

Welcome to the forum!

1 -- Enable the Pen/Bezier tool   :pen:
2 -- Click once to start a new path and set the first node
3 -- Move the mouse over
4 -- Click once to set the next node
5 -- Move the mouse over again
6 -- Click once to set the 3rd node
7 -- Move the mouse back to where you started.
8 -- See the tiny square at the beginning of the path?  Place the mouse inside that tiny square
9 -- Click once to end the path
10 -- Now the path will turn black and you should see a triangle (at least that's what it looks like you mean by "pointy shape")

Important: Make sure the Bézier tool's mode is the one with the angled lines in the icon. Not the strictly vertical/horizontal lines.

Click on a color in the palette to add a fill. Click on the field with the X in the palette while holding Shift to remove the stroke.

In my experience, following tutorials is the fastest way to learn how to use Inkscape.

If you click on the Home tab (near the top of every page), you'll find links to TONS of tutorials.  They are organized in skill levels, so you can look in the Beginner Skills block, and find tutorials which are easy to understand.  Some are text tutorials, and some are videos.  Whatever works best for you.

i tried clicking take from selection in the options and that didn't do anything

Follow this tutorial:  http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=15

That tutorial I gave you the link to tells you how to make the Pen tool, so that it always draws shapes with a solid fill and no stroke.  Be sure to follow every single step.

If you get stuck, just tell us exactly where you're stuck and what went wrong.

Double-click on a tool's icon to access its setting quickly.
