Hi there. I was wondering if there is any way of making the Windows version look like Linux Mint Cinnamon dark theme version. I mean i changed the theme on windows with a dark one i found on the internet but it`s buggy... icons not showing, the color is not exactly what i was looking for. I think the way Inskape looks on Mint Cinnamon with dark theme is how the program should look. The windows default theme is something from the past, and really hurts my eyes.
I am not sure how the themes work in Inskape.. i have been using the program for a log time but i just don`t get the theming thing..
So..can just port the theme from linux to windows ? and if it is possible...how ?

I always wondered why Inskape doesn`t look "normal" on windows ? Is it really hard to make a default dark theme for it ? I don`t know , maybe it is..i don`t really know about theming stuff as i have said. But it if isn`t.. then the developers should make time for doing it.. just a thought. The program is great, but it`s kind of a pain making it look "normal".. at least for me.

So a little help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!

Inkscape doesn't really have a themeing system (although it's been much requested).  Linux, and I think Mac users can change to a dark theme.  But Windows users can't do it very easily.  The white background is the default.

However, version 1.0 will offer some theme choices.  You can get the alpha 1.0 already:  https://inkscape.org/release/master/windows/  However, note that "alpha" is less stable than "beta".

Edit
Of course you know you can change the canvas background quite easily, separate from the theme.  Right?  Document Properties > Page tab, near the bottom > Background Color.

No, I don't think there is.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure not.  If I'm wrong, someone else will probably reply with the correct info.

There is. For the icons, copy the Inkscape icon file that you want to use into your icons directory.
For the theme, install a dark gtk2 theme, or modify the gtkrc file. Google these, I don't know the details myself.

I can`t seem to find the icons.svg file for the dark Mint-Y-Dark theme. I`m not even sure if Inskape uses one, in this theme. I found the default file in usr/share/inskape/icons but not the one that looks like the screenshot i attached.

Yes, those icons come from Ubuntu itself (or some other system package). They (unfortunately) override any Inkscape icons, both custom and default, that users can install on Linux Mint. (I hate them, but can't get rid of them - I would like to use the 'symbolic_icons.svg' file from the /share/ directory, but can't, because they broke it by adding their own icons...)

Anyway, yes, those icons you have there come from /usr/share/icons/Mint-Y/actions/ . You can proabably copy them over to your Windows machine - not sure how to, and if it's necessary to, change the load order. It's not one single file, but these are icons that come with the system, they are separate files.

Arakelian, have you been able to change the theme, except for the icons?

Yes I did. I copied the gtk2 folder from usr/share/themes/Mint-Y into windows Inkscape instalation folder Program files/Inkscape/share/themes/Windows..something. I tried copying the icons from Mint either. I copied the hole icons folder  :) from usr/share/icons/Mint-Y .. which didn`t work . Inkscape is still taking the icons from icons.svg file.  I had a custom icons.svg file downloaded from the internet. Now it looks almost as it does on Mint. I haven`t tried the symbolic_icons.svg file but i guess it should work . I`ll make a test and come back with the result and a screenshot if you want to see how it looks.
Thanks guys.
