I have just finished installing Helvetica Neue (the full 51 font family), and it does not display properly in the fonts menu.
Here is what it looks like in Inkscape:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
As you can see, it displays a single font weight under its own family and as 'medium' weight (which is clearly incorrect), while all the rest are under the same family but incorrectly named.
This is what it looks like in the computer's fonts folder, with the correct names:

The bottom screenshot here, with the font family details, is the same for all the subfolders, with the respective weights.
This is what it looks like in the registry editor, if that makes any difference at all:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Please help! What can I do to make them all display under one font family (not two) and with the correct weight names (not this mess)? Furthermore, is there anything I can do to increase the width of weight column?
Many thanks :)

Nothing, unless you want to edit the font files, which you are not allowed to do, because of the license.
The next major Inkscape version is supposed to fix things like this - please beta-test as soon as beta-testing is advertised to users.
To get info about it into your mailbox, you can subscribe to the Inkscape user mailing list at https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/inkscape-user/
Note that the list's location will change soon, so you will have to read the messages to know when and where to resubscribe.

Thank you very much for your reply, I have just subscribed to the mailing list.
Since posting I have discovered that the problem with one weight appearing seperate from the rest was not exclusive to Inkscape, although the other problems were. I suppose there must be a small error in that individual font somewhere.
Just now I have deleted all the Helvetica Neue fonts directly through the registry editor. After also deleting the font cache and restarting the computer, the fonts are completely gone – except on Inkscape where they are all still there and working exactly as before. I do not understand at all how this is remotely possible. As far as I can see they do not exist on the computer, and they don't show up in Word, Open Office Writer, or in the fonts folder. How is it possible they still work on Inkscape?

Apparently (we've seen it in other threads, e.g. http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=18770) Windows still keeps a copy of the font, it only hides it.
There's a way to see and remove those files, read up on the link above to learn how.
Inkscape's font searching program doesn't appear to respect that hiding.

Made a bug report for the deleted fonts: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1773601
