Hi Brynn,
I restarted using inkscape and can not find the way to merge several objects into a single one, I know Ctrl++ and Ctrl+K, but none of these do the job.
Either it deletes nearly all, or the white object disappears..
I post you another pic of my first illustration with inkscape.
If you haven't seen the movie 'Zombilenium', you 'll like it, it is made from a comic done on illustrator(nobody is perfect)
Cheers,
Gauthier

Hi Gauthier,
Could you share the SVG file with us? It sounds like the objects might be a little bit complex, if some parts are disappearing when you use Union (++). Usually that's normal, but we can help you find a way to do it. But we need to see the the file.

You can switch the display mode to see if they have really disappeared, or if they just have a color that cannot be seen on a white background (View -> Display Mode -> Outline).
In some cases, when it doesn't work, you may need to ungroup before you try to union (Ctrl++) objects.

Look into the status line at the bottom to see a hint that Inkscape gives if an operation fails.

Here it is.
Thank you for answering!

Oh, I didn't realize that was the image where the problem was happening.
Do you want the gray parts and the white parts to be all one object? The only way to do that, is to use Group. Select everything (Ctrl a) then Object menu > Group (or use the button on the command bar or the key shortcut).
They can never be all the same path, because they have different styles (fill color, in this case).

Oh, I think I got it: with a difference
