I have zero understanding of how python works. I am trying to install a tabbed box maker extension. I have put the extracted zip files of the extension into the appropriate extensions folder. Then I start Inkskape. A 'Laser Tools' selection appears under the Extensions tool bar selector, then a tiny blank box appears with nothing to select to start it. Troubleshooting the problem, I see there is an extension errors log and it says:
Extension "Tabbed Box Maker" failed to load because a dependency was not met.
Dependency:
type: executable
location: extensions
string: simpletransform.py
Extension "Tabbed Box Maker" failed to load because a dependency was not met.

string: inkex.py
What does this mean? And how do I fix it.

Welcome to the forum!
It sounds like that extension is broken. I know there are a few boxmaker extensions, and even 2 or 3 tabbed boxmaker extensions.
Specifically, which one are you using?
You could try using a different one, and I could give you some links, but it would help to know which one that is.

It sounds like your Inkscape's Python installation could be broken. Probably none of the extensions will work for you with this error message.
Did you update your Inkscape, or uninstall and reinstall?
Please try if uninstalling and reinstalling fixes the issue, and report back. If it does not, please open your file browser, and go to the Inkscape installation directory. There, try to find the /share folder, and the /extensions folder within it. Make a screenshot or copy a list of the files that are in that extensions folder.

Well I did as you suggested Moini. I deleted Inkscape and reinstalled it. Instead of the .exe version that I had, I installed the .msi version. And all seems to be working.
Brynn, I was using the box maker extension that is featured on the Inkscape download gallery that was the most popular. But like I said above it is working for me now.
Thank you both for your time. :2tu:

You're welcome.
Probably you've updated Inkscape previously - if not done right (i.e. choosing the correct download file on the Inkscape download page), this can break the Python installation for Inkscape. That's why the website suggests uninstalling and reinstalling always. Fortunately, it's easy to fix :)
