Hi Friends,
Does anyone know if this red geometrical shape has a name? And if so, what is it?
Included is the 8-sided star which the shape was created from, in case it helps to know the relationship of the various lines and angles.

All I can think is just a special kind of hexagon.
Why do I ask? Because I've been playing around with quilt patterns, and I made this design. I've actually never seen it as a quilt pattern, so I thought it might be good if I could at least describe what units it's made from.

Edit
Now made 8 sided star with it....well, sort of, not exactly the same.....

This more true star. I love geometry!

Not sure of the hexagon's name.
It has more of a cube resemblance, is sectionated further:

The 8 pointy star is quite common though, like here (http://www.quiltworx.com/patterns/prismatic-star/) are some variants.

Oh yeah, that's the exact pattern I was working on, when I "saw" the different hexagon. The pattern is called Carpenter's Wheel. Or at least, that's a variation of it.
There's also a special name for how the quilt in that image is quilted. I can't think what it is, but it's not very common (at least not in the US).
Oh well, thanks anyway. Maybe I'll invent my own pattern. If I don't find this pattern anywhere else, maybe I'll call this "brynn's puzzle". Or maybe I'll put points on it, and call it "brynn's star"?
