Title: A new Custom Theme Independent from The GTK default theme.
Post by: 1justonly1 on July 24, 2018, 06:29:10 PM
I'm very very very angry about that because to make Inkscape good view, I must to change my default Theme and Icon theme of my desktop (XFCE, GNOME, KDE) and How can I change only the theme and icon theme of Inkscape ? if inkscape written in GTK3 I can do it very easy with this simple terminal code "GTK_THEME=Adwaita gedit". GTK2 makes me very very angry because I can't change Inkscape's theme individually. Help me.  Is there any config file Inkscape using this for icon theme and theme  ? because I can fix this problem editing this file. In fact, the main question is How we can change the theme of the application written in GTK2

Please fix this problem for myself, for everyone.

Now, stop being angry and read this: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/merge_requests/294

Then, create a gitlab account and thank everyone involved ;-P

But there is still a problem: I don't know how I can do this because it's so complicated for me. And if I'm not wrong, the project is still under construction, when will the project has been finished ?

The way you were talking about GTK, it sounds like you have somewhat of a technical background, and could follow that discussion.  As far as I can tell (I don't have any technical background, and I can't follow the discussion) this is a new feature which was just added to a development version of Inkscape (or maybe it was added to a trunk, in case a trunk and a development version are not the same thing).

I guess you would need to install that....either development version or trunk.  Except that I've seen some messages on the mailing list about problems with a new trunk.  From what I can tell, it sounds like those problems might be related to this new feature.

So I would not jump into this right away, unless you really know what you're doing.  I would wait until it's released, at least in some relatively stable development version.  Moini will have to correct everything I probably said wrong.  And if it is available in a dev version, she can tell you where to get it.

From what I can tell, this feature is being developed much more quickly than what we usually see.  I think there is a big push underway, to finally release the long awaited Inkscape version 1.0.  And I'm guessing this is part of that.

I can't really say how long it will be before it's available in a relatively stable version.  But based on the speed this is happening, I would guess a week to a month -- unless they hit some snag that they can't fix, which of course is not something which can be predicted.

@1justonly1

To join the discussion on gitlab and encourage the developer, all you need to do is sign up for a gitlab account here: https://gitlab.com/users/sign_in
Then post on the thread and express your support :)

@brynn
trunk is master now :) That's just the name of the main development branch.

1.0alpha (or beta, or whatever we end up calling it) will be released some time next year. The new theming feature crashes will certainly be fixed earlier, I guess that's what you meant with the time frame you gave.

Everyone can try out the development version, there are instructions for it on the website (in the download section, https://inkscape.org/en/release/master/?latest=1).

@Moini,

I've added  a comment to project discussions. I hope, my comment will encourage them :D

Mmh, as this thread starts with 'I'm very very angry', I'm not sure, actually.... Hope they'll read on until the bottom.
