Re: good grapes
I did a bunch of grapes for a wine label a couple months ago. You can see them on my website at http://aureliandesign.com/packaging.shtml . The grapes you did here look really good, not to mention that Pinot Noir is by far my favorite kind of wine red or white. Did you do a complete version of the ...

Re: Can't save large image to PS (Postscript)
If I change one object to 80% opacity, it fails again. This is with the Rasterize option unchecked. Any reduced opacity or transparency (alpha) value is always rasterized on export to a PostScript-based format - the 'Rasterize' export option only applies to objects with SVG filter effects (includin...

Re: Can't save large image to PS (Postscript)
OK... Made a little progress. The layer opacity was 100%, but there were individual objects that were less than 100%. There was also a couple filtered objects. I "fixed" those things, and then I can generate a PS (not EPS) file and it goes very quickly. Of course it is not the content I wa...

Re: Can't save large image to PS (Postscript)
Not sure what you mean by "two SVG versions". The file exports directly to PDF *but* I have had repeated problems sending such files to printers, so try to avoid it. I had no option this time, but have yet to hear if printing was successful. Needless to say, I don't want to eat the cost of...

Re: Can't save large image to PS (Postscript)
More info. I took out all filtered objects and all text. I also manually flattened everything to one layer, and unlinked all clones. Also tried unchecking the "rasterize filter" option. No help. As background, since direct PDF output is broken (multiple printers cannot print Inkscape PDF f...

Can't save large image to PS (Postscript)
I have a poster design, 36.25" high x 24.25" wide. Has some layers, text, paths, tiled clones. I try to save to .ps (so I can run Adobe Distiller on it to get something that works at a print shop), but the save fails after using a ton of memory (500+ M). The error pop up has no useful info...

Re: More PDF Printer Problems
And did they tell you what they are using to try to print the file? My guess is they are using Illustrator or Pagemaker instead of printing directly from Acrobat... Are you asking for CMYK separations or anything like that? Thanks for the workaround info! What happens when you try to print the PDF ...

Re: More PDF Printer Problems
Are you saying that you 1. generated a PDF from Inkscape, 2. opened it in Acrobat and it looked fine to you, then 3. sent it to be printed and it did not print properly or at all? Yes, exactly. I have confirmed that Inkscape->PS->Distiller worked for the most recent case. Looks like I'll have to us...

More PDF Printer Problems
Yet again, a project goes off to the printer, and I get an e-mail saying the Inkscape generated file cannot print. Failed in the RIP, I believe, and the printer can't provide me any useful infomation about the problem. Fortunately, I have the Adobe CS Suite, too. I generated PS instead of PDF from I...

Yes, certainly AFTER you convert to path (simplify only works on paths).
It would be BEFORE you save it.

If you have an unncessarily complicated path you can Simplify it with Path -> Simplify (Ctrl + L on Windows).

Re: Color Printer Recommendation?
I ended up buying a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II. The first impresions: big, heavy, wonderful. It is supposed to be able to do borderless printing, but I haven't gotten that working yet. It can also print up to 13" x 19" (36 cm x 43 cm). It has 8 inks, and the colors are very good. The spee...

Re: 0.48 Text - Font Size (Tutorial)
Wow. Had never noticed that in the Inkscape Guide. There it is on http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Formatting.html . What a strange way to specify font size, especially if you don't have your default size setting in Document Preferences set to pixels. Looks like this has been report...

0.48 Text - Font Size (Tutorial)
While the new 0.48 text control are great, they take some getting used to. And figuring out the proper text size is always a challenge. Even after having studied typography some, I still need to remind myself of some things from time to time. Hopefully this will be helpful to some Inkscape users, an...

Re: Is Scribus Good Enough to Use?
Thanks! I did update to the newer release, 1.3.7. They have changed some of the UI very substantially, which takes some getting used to. I was starting to get the hang of the older version, and almost all of the tutorials on the web are based on the old UI. Anyway, it does seem put together better, ...

Color Printer Recommendation?
Looks like my color printer might be going. Any recommendations for a new one?
Plusses would be:
Can print 11x17 down to 4x6 or envelopes.
Replacement cartidges aren't ridiculously expensive.
Decent quality print for photos.
Needs to work with both Windows XP and Windows 7.

Re: Inkscape and Microsoft Word?
Inkscape is a vector graphics editor. Word is not. So you can't really make something in Inkscape and have it be editable in Word. Best to work out all deliverable formats and requirements before starting projects. PNG format should be fine, but again, not editable in Word. As to the DPI, not sure w...

Is Scribus Good Enough to Use?
I'm just starting to learn Scribus. I get the feeling it's not at a sufficient quality level to use productively (think Inkscape 0.45 at best), but this is based on limited use so far. What do others think? I appear to be running 1.3.3.14 from January, so perhaps I should look for an update. My spec...

Re: Scaled group doesn't print right
Thanks - only have one Windows XP system I run Inkscape on.
Interesting... My problems were on a hp LaserJet 1200 (B/W).
I just tried it on my color hp deskjet 940c and it printed fine.
Guess it's a driver issue then?
Thanks again!
