Re: User Interface Recommendation
I've never said anyone's complaints are invalid. Let's check this thread. Well, you're right, it's rather late in the game to ask for changes in the interface. The reason that Inkscape's interface is different from other programs, is because Inkscape is a unique program, and not modelled after any ...

Re: How to draw line
Customizable tool trays might be useful, but be aware there is a line between personal taste and measurably better design. I'm skeptical that more customizability is always better from a user experience standpoint, even if most (or the most vocal) users are more accustomed to a given workflow. There...

Re: How to draw line
Aye, I've taken issue with the current keyboard shortcuts for a while for how spread out and nutty they are. The concept of having two sets of keyboard shortcuts isn't necessarily terrible, but the idea that one's the proper shortcut and the other's mnemonic is just bizarre. Does anyone actually use...

Re: Transparency *during drawing*
This does seem like it should be a standard document or preference setting. Personally I don't use checkerboard transparency ever (especially in vector graphics), but it's rare that I ever find a program that doesn't have it at least as an option. Still, I can't speak for it's usefulness from person...

Re: User Interface Recommendation
Seriously? You're using Windows Vista as an example? Thank you Rush Limbaugh for your astute Horse Laugh. So while we're talking about UI issues, has anyone been working on redoing the outrageously terribly hotkey system? Last I checked the zoom presets were still mapped to the number keys (??) and...

Re: User Interface Recommendation
You're speculating and coming to either irrelevant or untrue conclusions. Just to provide one citation , distributed development has been shown to have a relatively trivial impact on productivity compared with business hierarchy. Now that you've shown that you don't know what you're talking about, i...

Re: Variable Width Stroke
Ah that's fantastic! Looking at the release notes, it seems that lots of issues I've complained about for a long time are being addressed (despite certain users insisting they were fine). I am aware of the Shape along Path feature but even before working heavily with Illustrator I thought it was cum...

Re: User Interface Recommendation
But I'm not keen on people suggesting throwing tools and features out just because they don't use them.... and comparing Inkscape to Illustrator, a very expensive commercial product. I would call it a "well developed professional product" and we'd be talking about the same software. I'm s...

Re: User Interface Recommendation
If they were merged into one tool, either some features would be lost, or the resulting "super tool" would have so many options and settings, as to be very difficult to use. I don't agree with that. Gimp has a lot of tools (pencil, airbrush, clone, blur/sharp...) with few option but it su...

Re: SVG limitations
It surprises me that you're still using Inkscape. You seemed so dissatisfied in the earlier topic http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=11586 [. . .] I'm thinking there might be better audiences for your comments, which might be better prepared for such "upper level" or te...

SVG limitations
The little bit I've used Inkscape (usually just when I didn't have access to my work computer), I've been frustrated (especially) with the way things save. Especially if I try to export to PDF, I lose text information and apparently everything on a given layer just becomes a big group. I didn't look...

Variable Width Stroke
My workplace finally got around to upgrading to CS5 (we're not an exceptionally high budget operation I can tell ya that) and my absolute #1 favorite most-used new feature as of CS5 is the variable width stroke. Here's an explanation video from the Adobe website: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illu...

Cute. I was mistakenly under the impression this was a moderated official support/discussion forum for graphic design software, but I can see now from the responses of the site administrator that no, this is a GameFAQs for a toy.

Re: Professional and Inkscape: A Short and Dirty Affair
That's how you deal with UI complaints? You say "No, you're doing it wrong, duh"? Honestly most of my complaints are indefensible. Now, I can honestly see some value in having shapes operate differently than regular paths, I'll grant some potential merit to that, sure, why not. And the gra...

Re: Professional and Inkscape: A Short and Dirty Affair
(This reply did not appear to go through earlier, so lets see if it does this time) I'm not involved with Inkscape development, only as a professional artist who has to use vector graphics a lot. You seem to be pretty high and mighty about what terminology I use, which I think kind of supports my po...

Professional and Inkscape: A Short and Dirty Affair
Hey all, I'm a professional graphic designer and illustrator working in one of the many t-shirt printers around the world. It's a fun and decent job. I use Illustrator. It's not just convention I've fallen into by force of habit; every chance I get I try to branch out, experiment, and use other tech...
