Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
As for the interface, I feel that Inkscape has some issues, one being that certain things like palettes and dialogue boxes could make a much better use of space. I don't know that inkscape needs to "look cool"… and Let me be clear that after making the above comment, in no way do I convey...

Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
Aside from the know lack of desktop integration (menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, drag&drop onto canvas, clipboard <-> pasteboard, font system), would a GUI similar to e.g. this one [2] ease some of the critics which dismiss Inkscape based on 'requires X11' or 'looks ugly'? I can't speak to the pl...

Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
~suv; you are right to bring up the GUI aspect, as it's an important point. and I would never say that "native" means "looks the same." Gimp offers themes which make it look OS X-ish, yet requires X11 to run on a Mac (not counting the "native" experimental aqua gimp) Ye...

Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
It feels like Gimp and Inkscape remain firmly in Linux and Windows land, with a half-nod to OS X via X11. Blender is the only significant open source app which runs natively in OS X and it is a stellar app. Works as well in OS X as on any other platform it supports, and I hope that it serves as a mo...

Re: What format works with Illustrator CS 4?
"Tiny" is a reference to Tiny SVG — a subset of all possible SVG features. This subset was/is a recommendation for mobile devices such a phones. IIRC, clipping is not supported in Tiny SVG indeed. I see..well, it's good to have that cleared up..thank you! and I will try the PDF method, to...

What format works with Illustrator CS 4?
I have an Inkscape illustration I'd like to move over to Adobe Illustrator, CS 4 for Mac OS X. I've tried EPS and SVG, but I run into problems, like missing art (nothing fancier than clipping paths and placed images) and cryptic messages like "Clipping will be lost on roundtrip to Tiny." w...

How to install lxml 2.3beta1 on Mac OS X
I'm told I need this to use certain extensions. I grabbed the latest version as instructed, but I have no idea where it goes.
Can someone tell me where I need to put this thing? The file ends in .egg which I've never seen before.
thank you!

Re: Can Inkscape do Illustrator "Blends?"
I'm the OP here...not sure what you mean by tapered...I probably did adjust the first and last instance of the blend, in other words, the illustration required a slightly different curve on those parts at one end than at the other end of the blend, but nothing radical...if you slapped one shape on t...

Re: Can Inkscape do Illustrator "Blends?"
OK that is sweet...Now, I have tried the tile clone tool and got thoroughly confused, probably because it doesn't work like Illustrator's tools...do you have a link to something that makes it easy to learn?

Can Inkscape do Illustrator "Blends?"
This image shows something I made in Adobe Illustrator; on the right is the Preview of what's on the left and show the threads blend I set up.
Can Inkscape do something like this?
thanks!

Shadows for grouped objects?
I know that I can apply a shadow to the object I want, and then group it with others, but would Inkscape ever apply a shadow only to the bottom-most object in an existing group?

Dropper behavior in 0.48
when I use the dropper on an object with another object selected, the selected object takes on the fill of the droppered object, but not the stroke.
Is this correct Inkscape 0.48 dropper behavior?

Re: issues moving objects in 0.48
You can use the Shift key to temporarily disable snapping while dragging, or disable snapping altogether with % or using the toolbar button ;) that is good to know, but it's not the cure for this particular situation...when I try your excellent tip, my object still wants to snap farther away than I...

Re: issues moving objects in 0.48
Can it be that it is very slow? If this is the case, hold the mouse for a longer time over the final destination. Otherwise you might have the snapping enabled and filled with some odd values. Press Ctrl+Shift+D and look if snapping is at default values. they are all set to "snap only when clo...

issues moving objects in 0.48
I have noticed that when I try to adjust size or position using the arrows on a selected object, the object behaves as though it's controlled by magnets and either snaps further than I drag, or goes back to where it was.

Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
Let me tack on some more thoughts..I don't want to express fatalism on this subject... I have no idea whatsoever what it's like to develop an application. My code efforts are limited to HTML/CSS, and that's not even close to writing an application. So, I can't say if it makes sense to do this or tha...

Re: Mac UI, COCOA Port
As a developer I can say with 100% certainty that a Cocoa port will not happen. There is no point in maintaining a separate version of Inkscape that uses a platform-specific API for its user interface. The only way to a native OSX Inkscape is to improve the Quartz port of GTK. well...that seems to ...

2 files open, only 1 has palettes
I have 2 inkscape files open right now. one of them has the layers, and fill and stroke palettes open. If I go to the other file, which has no palettes open, and select one of them, say layers, I am sent to the other Inkscape file! Why is this happening, and how can I have the palettes I need for th...

Re: Is hiding selection handles possible in 0.48?
Not that I know of. But I think if would be a nice feature to have -- like a button that disables the visibility, or an option in Inkscape Preferences? Well, IMHO, it would be best to have it be a toggle command by keyboard. Illustrator has it and I believe it's Command-H on the Mac.. it's somethin...
