Re: I Vectorized my Wife!
Thanks TKR, thats what I love about video tutorials.. they are very easy to watch at your own pace. No deadlines or anyone pushing you to hurry. No final exams or mid-terms. Just a lot of learning what you want to learn when you want to learn it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not think about that. I will try it tonight and post here whether or not it worked.

Pulling my hair out - SVG to EPS transparencies.
I have been trying all day to find a way to preserve transparencies when saving as .eps in Inkscape. I do not like being told just to "avoid using transparencies." There has to be some way without buying AI or going in and manually breaking apart each part that the transparency overlaps an...

Re: I Vectorized my Wife!
Ok, all 13 videos are now complete and posted on our site. Creating a Realistic Avatar. The SVG file will also be made available on our site. The entire series consists of just under 2 hours of footage. I recorded the entire process with no cuts and no fast forwarding. I tried to fill the boring par...

I Vectorized my Wife!
http://www.learndigitaldesign.com/images/host/ma_avatar.png This is an avatar image that I created for my wife. It has taken me a couple of days because I am creating a 12 part video tutorial series around it. I go through the entire process of doing this (no artistic talent needed) in real time wi...

Re: Do I Have to be an Artist to be a Great Designer?
Thanks for the detailed reply DC1. However, I do not really completely see where we actually disagree because I pretty much agree with all of what you said. Maybe I should clarify however, you are exactly correct that learning everything these tutorials have to offer is not exactly design. I should ...

Do I Have to be an Artist to be a Great Designer?
As an artist and a designer (there is a difference), I have encountered resistance in others who do not believe that they can be a great designer because they are not artists. The purpose of this article is to hopefully, for some with an open mind, break up those self limiting thoughts and allow you...

Re: My avitar image
With your level of talent it should be no problem for you at all. The thing is that it really doesn't actually take that much talent, just guts, because after you trace all of the lights and darks on the face it will look terrible, that's when you have to have faith that its gonna work out and keep ...

My avatar image
This is the full sized version of my avatar and the picture that I created it from. There are some more touches that I could add like the ears; however, I do not think they would be visible at the avatar size.

Re: Dashes Print Longer
I just tried it and yes, they did seem to print off just a little bit longer. I do not think that I would have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it though. The only way that I could tell that they were longer was that I used a square then applied a dashed line to the stroke and when I looked at the co...

Sometimes I think that is what design is all about. I just keep working on something till I get "Lucky." I of course have designs that I wouldn't show anyone!

If you don't mind my asking out of curiosity, what did you use Photoshop for that Gimp could not do? Or was it just an issue of you being more comfortable with certain features of Photoshop?

Our Miniature Dachshund Potchi.
http://www.learndigitaldesign.com/images/host/potchi.png This is our Miniature Dachshund, Potchi. I did most of the work in Inkscape, but used Gimp's smudge tool to break up the hard lines. I have to admit, that most of the artwork I see here on Inkscapeforum.com is so good and the artists are so t...

This was my first Inkscape project. This is my lovely wife who saved me from purchasing Adobe Illustrator when she found out that it was $600.00! If it wasn't for her I would have never discovered open source.

The texturing on the white feathers was a good call in my opinion.
It is one of those things that most people would not notice, but they would say that something didn't look exactly right without it.
Nice touch!

Re: Children's horror novel cover
That is highly impressive! I think that my two favorite words are "Open Source." I of course tell everyone I know, but it still seems to me that most of the world out there has no clue. They are still out there buying their overpriced software without any idea how much money they could be ...
