Would I be right in thinking even though the image is shaded / filled once saved as DXF the cnc laser cutter will detect the paths to cut?

At that stage you have shown is it ok to cut on the cnc laser cutter or does it have to be outlines only / no shaded areas?

What do you mean by 'trace'? Do you manually trace? Do you use Path > Trace bitmap? What line thickness are you referring to? The stroke width (width of the stroke of color that is applied to the path)? Or the area that is enclosed by a traced path? If I'm guessing correctly, you may want to try ce...
