Question about format for providing work to clients
Hi all, I've decided to try to make some freelance money at logo design. I'm talented in the design and visual area, but not in the technical and I still get a bit confused by the format stuff and how it applies to the open market. I'm a little unusual in that I use Inkscape, and not Illustrator or ...

Re: Help with isolating a logo from its b/g
Thanks but I was unable to use that info with GIMP. I was almost able to use the one you made there, except in Inkscape I can't get it to sit behind the main image (a text object). It's difficult to believe there isn't some way in Inkscape (or something else) to simply trim the logo from its backgro...

Help with isolating a logo from its b/g
Hi guys, Once again I seek help here with something basic that should be a snap, but when I try to do it the program doesn't seem to be behaving as it should. In the attached SVG image, I need to remove the dark red background and isolate the "superman" logo as a stand-alone vector (transp...

Looking for a microtask helper
Hi folks, Here I am again looking for help... But I'm tired of begging for free help. I'm looking for a per-task "micro" business relationship with someone who knows Inkscape pretty well to do what are usually very small tasks. While I'm very grateful for the free help I've obtained here s...

Re: Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the help. I'm slapping my forehead now, saying "why didn't I realize that box I saw that said 'foreground selection' would be applicable here?" druban, the offer is still good, drop me an email or PM with an email address if you'd like some fre...

Re: Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
I had asked you in the other topic about what was going wrong. I think that problem was solved before I found out exactly what is going wrong. If you can explain step by step what you do to perform the grouping, and also what happens that you don't want to happen, we can probably clear it up for yo...

Re: Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
Thanks Brynn, here I've attached the latest image I'm concerned with. Yes it's a jpg and if I understand your PM and post, I need to isolate it by hand which is a surprise to me, because as I said in my latest PM to you it never occurred to me that Inkscape doesn't have a tool that finds and defines...

Re: Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
After looking at your original traced SVG I felt that the crown had traced poorly. Definitely, I agree, but that is how the jpg-->svg conversion made it turn out. Your problem with the lettering might have been lessened by NOT checking the 'remove background' box. Thanks, I'll check into that. I'm ...

Re: Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
Easy peasy. 1. When I open the svg I get a group of one object. Ungroup this. 2. Draw a rectangle over the text but without overlapping the crown. 3. Select the rectangle and do Path>Object to path (shift-ctrl-c). 4. Select both paths (your original text+crown path and the new rectangle path) and d...

Need something done, will pay nominal fee for help
Hi all, normally I might post here asking for someone to explain how to do the thing I need done, but on this one I don't have time for that. It is for a project I really need to get off the ground to make money with and alleviate the poverty I'm struggling to get out of, and I don't have days or we...

Re: Another thing that I shouldn't need help with
Thanks Brynn, I actually don't fully understand grouping yet. I understand it a little, but perhaps in this particular situation it wasn't the right thing. The fact that SVGs stay locked together (uneditable) when not in a vector editing program is good, at least I get that now! I still don't unders...

Another thing that I shouldn't need help with
I'm starting to get famous for getting in these funny jams with simple moves I should be able to get answers to in the help files, but end up still lost. I'm making a header graphic for someone and it is basically a group of text objects. Three of the objects have different colors to them, so are di...

Re: Converting SVG to PSD
Thanks for those posts guys, I have a feeling that they may come in handy sometime in the future. Overall though, I think that I am just going to buck the trend and not offer PSDs. It sounds way too complicated to do so. The only reason I was concerned about PSDs was, as I said earlier, that many lo...

Re: Converting SVG to PSD
Thanks guys. Rich, thanks, yeah the question here seems to be: is it going to work to not offer PSD files (because there's no point if the layers and structure are lost), but instead to just say "source files included" and just hope that the logo client is okay with the fact that the sourc...

Re: Converting SVG to PSD
Well hang on, that didn't work out as well as I thought it would. When I downloaded and installed it, it turned out to only be a very small app called "Imagemagick Display" that was simply an image viewer. I don't know where all the rest of that 55MB of the installation was... I uninstalle...

Re: Converting SVG to PSD
Killer tip chriswww, thanks! This looks like quite a tool for sure. Another amazing freebie, like Inkscape! I do wonder what will happen to the SVG layers in the process of conversion to PSD. I hope corresponding layers are created in PSD, because that is what should happen, but it won't surprise me...

Converting SVG to PSD
Can it be done and if so, how? I've been Googling this and there are some free conversion sites online but the task of SVG-->PSD seems a rare animal. I found one that did it, but then when it was converted, my copy of Photoshop could not open it. However, I only have version 7 so I don't know whethe...

Re: Help with isolating an icon object from a group
Hi sorry about the delay in replying. Someone offline gave me the clue that I needed to move forward. Turns out that it didn't even occur to me that what I needed to do was open a second Inkscape document window, and import the .ai file into that one alone so that it is the primary layer. Apparently...

Re: Help with isolating an icon object from a group
Thanks, when I said "the whole opened .ai file" I simply meant the imported file, once opened, as a whole. I did import it the normal way. And in fact that .ai file you see there is not even the one I really want to use, I just slapped it on there to get the screen capture so I could show ...

Re: Help with isolating an icon object from a group
Hi Brynn, thanks glad to be here. Yes I tried that, it didn't work. I think Inkscape means "object" as the entire single image (the whole opened .ai file I imported), not the individual "objects" making up that image. That's one of the things that is kinda funny here, the fact th...

Help with isolating an icon object from a group
Hi folks, Sorry for the newbie question but I have to ask this. I tried to figure it out on my own and failed. And such a fundamental thing, too! Okay, so let's say I have a .ai file which is made up of a big group of icon objects (each one itself made up of several separate fragments). I imp...
