saw your edit - thanks for the great info. Actually, you can constrain the selection by clicking "within selection" in the find dialogue box (assuming you used the rubber band selection beforehand). So even if there are other objects with the same colours in other areas, you can avoid sele...

perhaps try importing the svg into scribus, then exporting the pdf from scribus. I've found the scribus pdf export to be superior to the inkscape cairo export

When I save an inkscape document as a pdf (cairo), there is banding in the gradients when viewing the pdf (at least when I view it with foxit). However, if you import the svg into scribus, and then use scribus to export as a pdf, it works perfectly. The gradient itself becomes vectorized in a true f...
