Looking for a good gradient tutorial

Hello again, I'm looking for a good gradient tutorial. I am using the Chrome tutorial as the basis for a logo I am working on, but I have very little experience with Inkscape gradients. Is there a tut out there that will walk me through the process step by step (setting stops, applying, saving, etc)...

Re: Recreating PSD effects in Inkscape: gradient, button, chrome

Okay, that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for! If I can produce a result like your example, I will be beyond satisfied! Now, just to be sure I get it, let me see if I understand exactly how you went about doing it. Was it something like this? You didn't really use a bevel filter right? It looks like yo...

Recreating PSD effects in Inkscape: gradient, button, chrome

It seems like I only learn when I challenge myself, and this certainly looks like a learning opportunity. I am trying to recreate some logos that were made with Photoshop into vector graphics. The printing company we would like to use to print our team logos prefers vector art. What better excuse to...

Tablet and Mouse Conflict - anyone else run into this?

I am trying out an older model tablet, and the mouse it came with is dead, and there does not seem to be a replacement available. Inkscpape seems to recognize the tablet, but only "sort of." It lists it in the "input device" pull down, but I can not change any of the settings in ...

Thanks all! I'm now trying out a used one, and I have some questions about it, so I'll make a fresh post. I really appreciate all of the input!

Re: Would you list your tablet that is Inkscape compatible here?

Thanks! That's just the kind of information I am looking for. May I ask what size it is. What size do you all like best? Anyone else?

Would you list your tablet that is Inkscape compatible here?

Hi all. I'm looking to pick up a tablet to use almost exclusively with Inkscape. Rather than making several posts asking about various models, I thought I might try this approach. I really have a limited budget (<$100) but have no issue with shopping used. If you use a graphics pad that works well w...

Re: A question about graphics tablet compatibility

Thanks, I called the company and they said since Inkscape is opensource they had not tested for it. I think I may try a different approach. I'll open a new thread and just ask folks which pads they have that work. Then maybe I can pick up one they suggest used.

A question about graphics tablet compatibility

Hello all! I am about to buy a graphics tablet. If there is already a faq or resource for this, and if so could someone please point me to it? I have a very limited amount to spend, so I am looking at the Manhattan Graphics 6" x 8" tablet for around $70. I have seen a couple of good review...

Re: Can you suggest great pen tool tutorials?

Wow! These all look great! And c-quel, thanks for the indepth response! I have lots to play with over the weekend! You have me curious now, as a newbie, I just assumed that the pen tool would be the most widely used tool, but you rank it as second. What should be first? Thanks again everyone!!!

Re: Funky fill, what are the rules?

You guys are great, thanks. I'm somewhat familiar with working with printers so I think I understand what you are saying. Am I correct then in saying that if I do a drawing in inkscape on an 8.5 x 11ish art board, and I know if may also be used for something much larger, when I save to EPS I should ...

Can you suggest great pen tool tutorials?

Can anyone suggest some good tutorials for mastering the pen tool? I am working my way through some basic tutorials I have seen posted here, but wondered if there are any out there that really focus heavily on using the pen. That's the tool that is really getting me. I'm more of a classically traine...

Re: Funky fill, what are the rules?

Syllie, druban - thanks again. I finally got it sorted out. I had been clicking the endnodes once, and thus not selecting both of them. I started selecting them rubberband style and that did the trick! Syllie, you were right, that chainring was a lot of work, but now it's all done and I've completed...

Re: Funky fill, what are the rules?

Thanks again. Wow, those of you who know what you are doing sure make it look easy. I have more respect than ever for the digital artist. I thought I had been very careful to join all the nodes. I would select to paths, connect them, then select the node where the two overlap and select join. I'm no...

Funky fill, what are the rules?

Hi all, I'm still trying to get my footings in this program. I created a logo for someone awhile back in Autocad, colored it in photoshop, and now I'm trying to recreate it in Inkscape so they can use it for t-shirts, signs, etc. Here is my issue. I have saved the CAD file as a pdf, and imported it ...

Re: Basic problem with filling imported shapes?

Thanks Syllie,

Based on your input, and some of my own exploration, I think I may just try to re-create this with the star tool and some booleans.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Basic problem with filling imported shapes?

Oops. I forgot to log in before. I guess I'm "guest" too! One other question. To get them together I just windowed the shape and did a Control-K to combine all of those little paths. Now, when you say join the end nodes, does that mean the end node between each subpath (say after sim...

Basic problem with filling imported shapes?

Hello All. Brand new user here. I've used Photoshop for years and thought this would be easy to pick up, but the most basic things seem to be stumping me! I am trying to do a logo for a friend. A main element is a gear from a bicycle (chain ring). I created it in Autocad, and exported it as a pdf. I...
