I set up a document 8.5 wide by 11 long and inserted some text and some designs. When I printed the document the entire background printed black, even though the background was white.
Any ideas what I did wrong?

Re: GCode extension path to gcode unnecessary Z raises
Thanks very much for the replies. I am using the version that came with inkscape 0.91. To clarify a bit.... Normal cutting procedure is to split the total cut into a number of steps (if it's a sizeable cut). Lets get back to that circle that needs to be cut out of material 6 mm thick. If you want to...

GCode extension path to gcode unnecessary Z raises
I am using the Gcode extension to generate some cutting paths for my CNC machine. Let's just say that I'm cutting a circular path with a step down of 3mm and a total depth of 6mm, so there are two passes on the circle. The Gcode that gets generated causes the machine to plunge to 3mm, cut the circle...

Hiring out SVG/Inkscape work?
We are launching a very small side business where we cut out wood art based on my wife's designs. We have been using Inkscape and have gotten some good results, but it takes us a while to get the project ready to generate cutter toolpaths. We start the process by my wife drawing the design on paper,...

Stick fonts versus outline fonts
I am trying to find a way to create "stick fonts" in inkscape. I'm incorporating text into some designs that I cut with my CNC machine. Right now I end up with paths around the text that end up creating an "island." Just create some text and make it a path and you will see what I...

Re: Inkscape Gcode Tools - Area/Pocket?
It looks to be a problem with the inkscape SVG.... if you could call it a problem. My CAM program by default assumes that the units are in mm. Even though I had designed in inches and had my document properties set to inches in Inkscape (I was prepared to convert to mm in my CAM software), the pixel...

Re: Inkscape Gcode Tools - Area/Pocket?
Thank you for the reply. I will try to use their search function to narrow down what I need to look through as you suggested. It looks like it started as a tutorial but evolved into a bit of a Q&A and the entire interface has since changed. I'll check out the cutter/plotter section for sure! Her...

Inkscape Gcode Tools - Area/Pocket?
I am having trouble generating g code with the area feature of the Gcode tools in the extensions menu. I have been able to generate a path from the gcode, but not an area. (Note, I believe gcode is using "area" to mean a "pocket," which is the conventional term in English for cre...

Re: Deleting nodes after trace bitmap?
Thanks for the replies. I have had success getting the outline with "Break Apart. My problem now is that the outline did not create a completely closed shape. The outline looks good everywhere except for one small gap. I've tried to select the node tool, click one node, then click the other node...

Deleting nodes after trace bitmap?
I've used the "trace bitmap" tool on some clipart I got on openclipart.org. I just want the exterior path of this image. When I select some of the interior path nodes and delete them, I get left with a stroke that has the triangle in/out effect going on. Any idea why or how I fix it? Thanks!

Re: How to add decorative trim to a shape?
Thanks. Those two replies really help clear things up.
I think the scatter and pattern along path are just what I was looking for.
And that video series looks like a wonderful resource!

How to add decorative trim to a shape?
Hello all. I'm new to Inkscape and I plan to use this software to design some decorative items that I will cut out with my CNC machine. What I really would like to learn is how to add some design to the interior perimeter of some shape. Let's say I have a star shape to be cut out with some text to e...
