Re: Repeat action, shortcut sought
It now seems to me that a fundamental difference between CorelDraw and Inkscape duplication method is that in Corel, one can set an offset, both horizontal and vertical, for the duplicate position. Without that in Inkscape, a repeat action would not be as versatile. I've looked at both the interpola...

Re: Repeat action, shortcut sought
I've just googled "Repeat last action in Inkscape ubuntu" and it led me to a Bug #171673 report that describes exactly the same idea 5 years ago !

Re: Repeat action, shortcut sought
Hi brynn, While I mentioned in my second post the workaround I am using for the current project, I didn't mean it to be anything more than an example of what I'm now doing. Having been using CorelDraw since ver 4.0, 15 years ago, when I was a fan maker, before migrating to ubuntu as an os, where I'v...

Re: Repeat action, shortcut sought
I've come up with my own workaround, of sorts. Say I wanted ten squares distributed along a sloping line. Ht the ctrl+D 9 times, move the last one to the furthest position, select them all, and then use the 'distribute' tool to space them out. It's a method that I'm using to lay out a printed ciicui...

Re: Two problems, freezing and opening/closing files
I'm not sure, but I might have an issue with my cpu. It could now be aging faster than I am, so I'll hang fire until I get the replacement installed( waiting for the conductive wrist strap to arrive). If I can still produce the hang up, I'll certainly post details of what I can reproduce. Glad you l...

Re: Gcodetools and 'Path to Gcode' problems
More nodes would certainly lead to more accuracy, but in this case the extra nodes are coming from the 'circular ends of the 'wires' where the component requires more copper to ensure a good solder joint. Each line between two nodes generates a new line of code, so the fewer the better. The actual s...

Repeat action, shortcut sought
When using CorelDraw, if I duplicated an object and then moved it, pressing ctrl+R would create another copy, but also move it by the same amount. This also would work whatever the previous action was (rotate, rotate and move, etc..). Is there any similar action possible in Inkscape ? I've looked at...

Re: Two problems, freezing and opening/closing files
Hi HTH. Many thanks for your detailed reply. 'Stale session' gave me the clue. What I've found, with a fresh reboot and nothing else running, is that if I have finished reading the help manual, and go back to my file, the pop up is still running. If I then try to close that, with the manual still op...

Re: Gcodetools and 'Path to Gcode' problems
Good news and bad news. I broke my path into 200 objects and decided to delete some of them to give the programme a fighting chance. However, I rather got carried away and left only one object with 172 nodes on it ! I ran this throught the gcode tools, but it crashed again  However, having noti...

Re: Gcodetools and 'Path to Gcode' problems
Hi brynn. I've been reading the 'Help with Inkscape' forum and found a thread in 2010 discussing limits of various sorts, and a posting from you mentioning the problems with spirograph outputs. For me, a key was the mention of the large numbers of objects, and I realised that my file has only one ob...

Re: Greetings from snow covered Norfolk, UK
Hi Flamingolady from slightly warmer Norfolk UK. Fully understand the effects of fighters over the house ! We're on the flight path of the local RAF station, and they've taken to standing on their tail pipes when they're practicing overhead. The noise becomes a physical hammer blow. But there you go...

Two problems, freezing and opening/closing files
I'm running Inkscape 4.8 in ubuntu 12.04. I've opened the online help manual, then having found my answer, I closed the browser, only to find the 'opening online manual' pop up still running. If I try to close it, the widows go blank and the whole programme freezes. While other programmes continue t...

Re: Gcodetools and 'Path to Gcode' problems
As I can't find how to edit quickly, I'll just add the following observations I've made since posting the above. I've tried reducing the complexity of the file by deleting a great portion of it, till It only has 512 nodes. The result is still the same, and I've attached a screen shot of the final wi...

Greetings from snow covered Norfolk, UK
Ancient laptop user, whose been persuaded by his daughter to build some electronic kit, via a home built cnc wood router, finally given in, and is using Inkscape/Ubuntu 12.04 to mill the printed circuit board. Well, that's the idea, anyway, even though he'd much rather be trying to learn to play the...

Gcodetools and 'Path to Gcode' problems
I've installed ver. 0.48 on a laptop running ubuntu 12.04 as a means to supply gcode to my cnc wood router running Linuxcnc. My current project is to engrave a pcb, and having imported an illustration from a pdf file via a screen grab, I used inkscape first to redraw the layout with a 1mm 'pen'. I t...
