Re: Viewpoint presets
Thanks, ragstian. I'm still going through the manual and haven't gotten to the bit you referred to. The only thing with the backquote key is it records all instances of zooming - so you'd have to go back a fair few times to get to your original position. For example, I might be editing nodes at 3200...

Viewpoint presets
Hi, I haven't used Inkscape for long, so quite possibly this idea is already realised somewhere and I just don't know about it. I think it would be helpful to be able to save your current viewpoint (a combination of zoom and x-y positioning) and then to assign a shortcut to it. Something along the l...

Re: Working with paths exported from Gimp
Yes, their outlines and colour profiles. I want to transform them into a two-colour (black and white) stencil. I really liked the results of running multiple colour scans in Inkscape - they seem to doing more than just reducing the image to 2,3,4 colours as Posterize does. Do you know how their algo...

Re: Snap guides to individual selected nodes
druban, thanks for pointing to something that is now very obvious. Being new to Inkscape, I thought the only snapping options were in Document Settings: Snap to objects, Snap to grids and Snap to guides. After I enabled all five buttons, everything worked perfectly

Re: Snap guides to individual selected nodes
The solution from that thread suggests dropping a horizontal (or vertical) guide through the reference node, but I can't make it snap to the exact centre of the node. I can manually reposition it, but that's always going to be an approximation and not the precise location.

Re: Working with paths exported from Gimp
Right, figured it out myself: When exporting paths in Gimp, have to make sure that you select "Export All Paths from This Image" in the drop-down menu. The default option is to export paths individually, which screws up their relative positioning.

Working with paths exported from Gimp
Hi, I'm doing some work involving bitmap tracing and having a bit of trouble with the overwhelming amount of nodes that Inkscape draws from the original file. I tried setting Optimize paths and Suppress speckles to acceptable maximums (the compromise here is between the sharpness of the outline and ...

Snap guides to individual selected nodes
Hi, I've looked for similar threads, but the one matching the closest ( http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11438 ) doesn't quite solve the problem for me. Essentially, I want to snap a guide through a selected node so that I could then align other nodes to the original one. There i...

Re: "Fill and Stroke" menu not working ...
brynn, you're spot-on..it's my first brush-off with vector graphics and I'm used to selecting colour before drawing (as opposed to sketching and then colouring). However, this particular problem only came up when I was trying to draw yellow stars on the blue EU flag and couldn't see any because the ...

Re: "Fill and Stroke" menu not working ...
Hi, If I may offer a slight correction: when you have nothing selected and pick a colour on a palette, the fill colour will change, but there will be no visual indication that it has happened. The Fill / Stroke Status Bar will still say N/A, but the next time you draw a shape, it will have the fill ...
