Re: Graphic "Growing Roots"?

Kjohrf, Wow, thanks for pointing me in that direction. I didn't know about that extension, and would not have found it the way I was searching. I was playing with it a bit today, and I think it can help me get the effects I need. Pretty powerful extension. Thanks again for your help -- really apprec...

Graphic "Growing Roots"?

Hello, I've been using Inkscape for a few months now, and I am constantly impressed with it! And I am always impressed with the creativity of this community. I'm putting together a textbook for a college class. I'm designing the cover (the textbook will also be the basis for a related Web site and t...

Re: Ideas and inspiration in logo design

DC1, Of course, this is a complex discussion, as any discussion about success and the elements of success and communication are bound to be. One thing I always come back to with logos is that, if you do succeed, everyone will say your logo is great. If you fail, people will point to the logo as part...

Re: Ideas and inspiration in logo design

DC1, Great points! I'm definitely interested in hearing the truth about logos, whether we like it or not. My instincts keep telling me that simpler is better with logos. Of course, it needs to be unique and memorable. But I think the content you develop should really say who you are. But with that s...

Re: Ideas and inspiration in logo design

VitalBodies, Good thoughts and advice on logo design. I've been thinking about all this a lot lately, as I struggle to design my own logo. Like you said, I want the logo to "say it all" but remain simple (people remember simple better than complex). It's hard!! I've bookmarked perhaps 100 ...

Re: Designing "Simple" Text Logo

Hello, VitalBodies: I just checked out the other thread you started, and I definitely look forward to seeing what develops there. Kjohrf: thanks for the comments! I definitely appreciate hearing this kind of thing -- the only way to learn! I got rid of the gradient, and I am experimenting with all s...

Re: Ideas and inspiration in logo design

Hello, Thanks for starting this topic! I'm still designing my logo (see this topic: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4592) and really would like to learn what more experienced people have to say. I fully expect to become good at this someday, at which time I can help others. For ...

Re: Watch this!

Hey, I just took a look ar this video, and I am amazed! I'm especially impressed with the material that appears starting around 5:30 and on. How in the world did he do the animations? Not that I expect to EVER come close to this level of design skills, but I am definitely curious about the technique...

Re: Designing "Simple" Text Logo

RM,
Sorry for not responding sooner! Don't worry, I understand what you were saying, and I appreciate the help. I'm open to all constructive ideas, and I really want to learn from what experienced Inkscape users have to say.

I'll be posting the new logo soon!

Thanks,
Matthew

Re: DNA Dog Food Image?

Hello, OK, learned a bit more today, thanks to that tutorial. I followed it mostly, but figured out a couple of different elements (like adding a rim on the bottom and top of the can and wrapping the helix as well as the text). Here's the new graphic. Tell me what you think: http://www.thedogwriter....

Re: DNA Dog Food Image?

prkos, I'm laughing! I was looking for a tutorial like that and couldn't find it. Instead, I spent hours trying to take a photograph that could be converted into an Inkscape drawing. The most challenging thing for me was to get the text and "label" elements to appear as if they are wrappin...

Re: DNA Dog Food Image?

Hey Everyone, Thanks prkos for the comments and the link. Yes, getting the double helix was not easy! OK, I have worked on this a bit, and in the process of creating a graphic for an article on my Web site I also learned a few more things about Inkscape. Wow, I am very impressed with what this appli...

Re: A bag of candy

ErikHK, I like this image! Just wondering if you had any tips on how I could edit this to make it look like a bag of dog food - you know, those tall bags with like 50 LBS of food in them? I need an image like this for my Web site (still under development). I posted about it here: http://www.inkscape...

DNA Dog Food Image?

Hello, I'm in the final stages of developing my Web site, which focuses on writing about dogs. I cover science, biography, history, sledding, guide dogs, and more. Anyway, more on that later! One of my articles is about "nutrigenomics" -- a fairly new science involving the development of f...

Re: Would you list your tablet that is Inkscape compatible here?

Hello,
This is a great discussion. I was thinking recently about getting a tablet for this purpose, but I could not determine which one would allow me to take what I draw and "simply" bring it into Inkscape.

I'd be interested in hearing from more people on this subject.

Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Designing "Simple" Text Logo

RM, Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to put together another version and share it here. Regarding the word "the" in the logo: my domain is literally "thedogwriter.com" so I feel the need to include it. But I definitely see what you mean, and I want to kind of downplay it while ...

Cutting Simple Circles?

Hello, I've hesitated to ask this question because it seems so simple, but I just want to make sure. I need to cut circles from existing JPGs. I could not figure it out, but then I found the following post: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=643&p=3355&hilit=circle+clip#p33...

Re: Designing "Simple" Text Logo

prkos and brynn, Thank you so much for jumping in and offering advice. I really appreciate it! I see what you mean about the gradient being confusing. The background I'll use will be dark gray, but still I think I do need to get rid of the gradient. I like the idea of a dog paw for the "W"...

Designing "Simple" Text Logo

Hello, I have a question about a logo. But first, allow me to introduce myself briefly... I'm a freelance journalist, specializing in articles about human/animal history and culture. I also teach writing. I've been learning all about Inkscape for a few months now, reading everything on this forum an...
