Re: Simple trick to create a speech bubble in Inkscape
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, I've never been able to use the Pen tool satisfactorily. Something in my brain doesn't process the technique very well. Yes, I agree that this could be better handled by the tool which does Bezier curves. I'll try out what you sai...

Simple trick to create a speech bubble in Inkscape
I have created a YouTube video explaining how to create a simple speech bubble. My accent might be a bit hard to follow. Please let me know your thoughts. I know this is a very basic tutorial, but I wanted to show how easy Inkscape makes it to create objects like speech bubbles. http://www.youtube.c...

Digital comic howto: worklow with MyPaint and Inkscape
Hi, back after a long time! :) I've shared my technique and workflow on digital comic creation with MyPaint and Inkscape here: http://harishankar.org/blog/entry.php/workflow-tutorial-how-to-draw-a-digital-comic-strip-entirely-with-free-software In the above tutorial I cover the workflow from: 1. Re: New comic drawn with Inkscape - The Legalease
You're evaluating my comic in terms of people's time or money? I don't know where you get that idea from lenin. I think you approached my whole request wrong. If I wanted to know whether my art was as polished as the Simpsons or Batman then I can answer that question myself. You should judge everyth...

Re: New comic drawn with Inkscape - The Legalease
Thanks for being so understanding , brynn. About the humour, I'm working on it and I'd love to make it more appealing while at the same time remaining within the legal field. Character design is a specialized area of cartooning/comicking and it requires a lot of effort and time to come up with consi...

Re: New comic drawn with Inkscape - The Legalease
1. Poor form to ask for feedback, resurrect the request three months later, and then get snarky when someone does give benign, constructive criticism. I apologize if I came across as a bit churlish. I had waited ages for feedback when every other thread has got a reply before resurrecting it and th...

Re: New comic drawn with Inkscape - The Legalease
You're looking for perfection in an amateur's attempt at a comic. If I could draw like the pros I wouldn't be asking feedback now, would I? Also my attempts aren't to get artistic glory. I'm looking to develop the script further and get at least consistent drawing the characters. Thanks for t...

Re: Achieving basic shading in Inkscape
Thanks for the tips. I use a mouse too , but I find the pen tool unintuitive and not really easy to get the results I want so I rely on the pencil tool. I don't create too many nodes since I use the mouse to set the control nodes, but still some shapes get quite complicated. I will try the "Pat...

Re: Missing characters in PDF output
The other option is to print to PDF rather than save as PDF . This will ensure that the document is exactly preserved as you created it. If you're using Linux it's pretty easy to print to PS or PDF. With windows you can download a free PDF printer driver. Converting to PNG and then to PDF might resu...

Re: Object unselectable? Bug?
I fixed this problem. I had inadverdantly "locked" the object in use when it appeared in the layers list at the bottom, thinking I was locking the layer. However, when I unlocked the layer and then chose to do "Unlock all objects" it works as expected. Strangely when I tried unlo...

Re: Achieving basic shading in Inkscape
I'm using the pencil tool.
By slightly slower, I meant with respect to not doing any shading at all in Inkscape... Blurring is a terribly slow process... but alpha transparency is not so bad.

New comic drawn with Inkscape - The Legalease
I've started doing a brand new comic called "The Legalease" a while ago and decided to use Inkscape instead of a traditional raster program. I think I've got better and better as I am comfortable with it. Only 4 episodes published so far, though I've created 9... Take a look at my comic he...

Re: Object unselectable? Bug?
Will try the Tab method. EDIT: that also didn't work...
I tried all other methods, included selecting the entire picture but the object, while visible didn't get selected. I couldn't even see its selection handles so appears to be a bug...

[solved] Object unselectable?
I was recently editing a heavily layered image in Inkscape (almost 13-14 layers) and suddenly an object I created just became unselectable. I tried unlocking all layers and objects, but still the object was not selectable by rubberband tool or by clicking. Is there any way to fix this problem? I wan...

Re: Achieving basic shading in Inkscape
c-quel, Thanks so much for the feedback. :) Yes, it takes slightly longer to do it in Inkscape, but I think the effort is worth it, if only because it remains a single source for web and potentially print. With practise, I think I can bring down the time required because initially I spent a lot of t...

Re: Achieving basic shading in Inkscape
Yes, thanks. I'll try that technique of non-blurred shading today and see how it comes out. :D I still feel more happy with GIMP to do shading, but the thing is because I want to export the final image at (potentially) different resolutions, I felt the whole source should be prepared completely in I...

Re: Achieving basic shading in Inkscape
Thanks. That's what I was after. Good to know that there are a few ways to achieve this. I tried the blur effect myself but not to my satisfaction.
I'll follow your suggestion and see how it comes.
