Can you make a gradient move with the object if you shift it or size it?

Connecting nodes?
Can you connect midpoint nodes or an end node to a mid line node? I have tried but can only get end nodes to join sometimes but not consistently. Can you join multiple end nodes?

I am new at this but I think . . . try creating your pattern and then use the object clip?
