Re: How can I import a EPS file into Inkscape?
when creating the GS_PROG variable I found that in order to make sure it works for the gimp you will need for it to be C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.00\bin\gswin32.exe this did not work for me C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.00\bin\ additionally in the PATH variable to make it work in inkscape I have: C:\Program ...

Sometimes you can obtain a better result by using another application like VectorMagic

Re: What is the best way to obtain crisp text on export
I first tried as text it did not work (as expected since it was not a path).
Then I converted it to a path and got the following error:
Selection contains non-symetric scaling
Selection contains non-symetric scaling
So then I broke apart and did a union and got the same error.

What is the best way to obtain crisp text on export
I have tried aligning text (14-20px size) to half pixel and whole pixel grid coordinates and still when I export the text or text path it comes out blurry. I turned off bitmap oversampling and still it persist.
Has anyone come up with at way to overcome this limitation?

I would have never thought to do it the way that you have done it. The masking part is a great idea.

@RobA>
You wouldn't by chance still have the svg to show what you are referring to would you?
I also added a radial gradient (transparent in the middle) rectangle on top that was masked by a slightly random multipoint star

Re: Creating a Retro Background
Using a radially tiled clone with a little blur for the red parts was my first choice but then I could not really see how I would achieve the dark parts that are intermingled with the red sunburst. Duplicating and then blurring a black sunburst just does not seem to achieve the same effect.

Re: Web graphic methodology
I've recently developed an Inkscape extension to make it much more convenient to align objects to pixels. It eliminates a lot of tedious work for web development or any pixel-perfect digital graphics.
Will have to give your extension a try.

Re: How to convert .eps vector file to the .svg in inscape?
For EPS import Inkscape depends on helper applications:
Inkscape 0.46: pstoedit
Inkscape 0.47pre: ps2pdf (part of Ghostscript)
just install ghostscript and pstoedit and add to the System path the ghostscipt location and you can open .EPS files with no problem. Assuming you are using Windows.

Depending on how many of the characters you need you could open the character map in windows xp and select the characters you need and then copy them into inskcape.

I know this defeats the purpose of using a pen, but try disabling using pressure sensitive tablet in inkscape preferences and your pen will work again.
