Also, when I used the touch select tool (left click + alt) to select objects, inkscape freezes and my cpu goes to 100%.

Edible Landcape Food forest Design
Hi. This design is become very difficult to work on. The biggest problems occur when turning layers on and off. Sometimes takes 15 minutes. I have almost 4 gig of ram and my system uses 1.5gigs. Sometimes I run out of ram and the computer shuts down. I'm looking for some geeky advice that doesn't in...

Re: Food Forest Design
Thank you for your replies. To further investigate the issue I made a copy and deleted every image from all of the layers. Then I deleted all of the layers. The file size of the original was 74.5 MB. The new file with no layers or images is 74.1mb. Here is the blank file with no layers. https://driv...

I've finished this design and I have a problem with the file size. Why is it so big? I've made a copy of the file, deleted all of the layers and the image is still over 70 megabytes.

Re: Maintain length while moving nodes.
Here are the warnings etc. This may not work in all versions of Inkscape. This requires you to activate the appropriate icons on control bar and select preferences correctly. I'm using inkscape 0.48.3.1 and I can't get it to work. I have activated :tool_node: and click on a segment to select the tw...

WIth only 1Gb of RAM I"ve decided to put this on hold until I get a better computer because it takes to long to do anything and sometimes it crashes and I have to get an older version from dropbox because the file is impossible to open. What do you think? I can't attach it (I don't know why), s...

select object in layer underneath
I have objects in layers above the object I'm trying to select. The above layers are 50% transparent so I can see the object underneath that I want to select, however clicking on it or alt clicking only selects the objects in the layers above. THe fastest way I can sind to select the object undernea...

THank you brynn. I hope that someone more knowledgeable somewhere some day will be able to figure this one out because solar maps are so great to have when planning for growing plants.

Maintain length while moving nodes.
I'm creating scale drawings for landscape design and I have a fixed length of fencing. I'd like to know how I can draw a line and then add nodes to it and change the angle of certain sections without resizing the length. For example if I know I have 100 meters of fence :tool_pen: and I draw a line m...

additive layer opacity the way I am thinking
I would like to make a request to Launchpad however before I do so I'd like heal with explaining what I mean. I propose that it be possible to create overlapping areas of grey objects, or black objects with less than 100% opacity create darkness relative to addition of the "blackness" of b...

Re: Blend Mode Darken problem (Ghost offsets)
Thank you very much for your reply. Your alternative method worked very well of my application using rectangles. To further complicate things I would also like to achieve the same results using other polygones and circles. Unfortunately the fix for rectangles does not work the same for circles. I'm ...

Blend Mode Darken problem (Ghost offsets)
I'm making a solar map by creating layers of shadows. Where the shadows overlap it is darker. My goal is that: When there are 6 overlapping layers the colour is 100% black(RGBA000000ff). R,G&B=0 A=255 When there are 5 overlapping layers the colour is 100% black(RGBA000000cc). R,G&B=0 A=204 W...
