Once again, these are excellent. Such clever use of colour and shading - love it.

Re: Opacity and how to preflight inkscape files?
passwas, thank you for this post, I've been watching this thread in case anyone is able to answer your question, and unfortunately it doesn't look like it so far. I'll be honest with you, you're working at a much higher level than most of us are used to when using Inkscape. Inkscape is so great to u...

Re: 0.47, export bitmap problem
I'm going to hazard a guess that the reason Inkscape is generating these artifacts on your output is because the shapes within this graphic are not fitting exactly on a pixel grid. In other words, the corners and edges of your shapes sit at positions like x=143.2, y=76.8, instead of x=143, y=77. The...

Re: cmyk and inkscape
I'm in the same position as Arwym here: I prefer to use the open source versions of design software as, for some reason, I find them easier to use and less restrictive in terms of tools and effects. I hate having to design something 'The Adobe Way' using the prescriptive methods, menus and styles. D...

Re: Inkscape 0.47 has been released!
I've been using some of the pre-release v0.47 versions, and just downloaded and installed the final, stable package. I wanted to add my thanks and appreciation to the dev team for what is a really outstanding piece of work. I've just finished designing a website using graphics sliced from Inkscape a...

Re: Make Inkscape graphics sharp with the PixelSnap extension
Thanks for this extension bryhoyt. I just downloaded it to give it a test drive, sadly without any luck. I installed as described, putting the .py and .inx files in ~/.inkscape/extensions (and later I found ~/.config/Inkscape/extensions also). I restart Inkscape, and cannot see any menu entries for...

Not 100% certain that it'll fix all the problems you're encountering, but I was looking at good ways of creating swooshes in Inkscape and this tutorial from someone calling himself Mr Tentacle Guy was very helpful to me:

Re: my works, btw inkscape is awesome
I really like all of these - especially your sense of perspective and light/shadow. They're relatively simple when you first look at them, but they've all got a subtle depth that makes you look again.
Top stuff.

Re: Text shadow (not drop shadow)
You'll be pleased to know this can be done fairly simply in Inkscape. First, type your text using the text tool ('T' on the keyboard) and tinker with the font and size until you're happy. The effect we're going to apply doesn't directly work on Text objects, however, so you'll need to select your ty...

Re: Tutorial :: Outlined text with 3D effect
Actually, I added the 3D effect at the end, from using Extrude , under the Effects --> Generate From Path menu. I've slightly amended the tutorial picture to mention this. It's also worth noting that perspective transforms don't seem to like gradients much and you have to re-apply them afterwards to...

Re: Image mirrored
If you're working on a heap of files and need batch conversion then you could try Irfanview , which is free and small in terms of hard drive space. In File --> Batch conversion choose your folder of images and tick the box so you can into the Advanced dialog window. In there you'll find some flip/ro...

Re: Web graphic methodology
Thanks for those replies: couple of really useful tips there already. I'm a bit caught because I instinctively reach for Inkscape when it comes to designing graphics of just about any kind, these days, but I find the bitmap export to be a bit quirky; the note about achieving whole numbers of pixels ...

Web graphic methodology
I'm very new to website design and development and, as an experiment to prove to myself that can do it as much as anything else, I'm currently trying to put together a website which uses graphical buttons with rollover effects on a nav menu, with themed buttons and headers elsewhere on the pages. I'...

Re: Dandelion
Hey that's really lovely, and a grand idea too. :D Can you ramp up the random rotations of the outermost stars on the dandelion head? That might just add a little 'trueness' to the object's surface, as my eye is drawn there quite strongly for some reason. Also, how about a really pale blue/white gra...

They're really coming along with The GIMP now; the integration of GEGL...

OK, I could be well wide of the mark here but I'm going to take a punt on what you're attempting to do and guess at a perspective transformation. That is gorgeous - you should put that forward for v0.47's splash screen.
Just neaten up the left and right-most spirals (centre on each side) and you're done. Love it.

Re: Competition #5 - T-shirt design
Thanks for the T-shirt template link, very useful. :) Here's an idea I had for a T-shirt design. I'm a big fan of The Dandy Warhols, but I've always thought their merchandise was a bit ... well, rubbish. They've recently released an album entitled Earth To The Dandy Warhols, the first track of which...
