Re: Won't let me 'save as'
This is clearly a bug, but you should be able to resolve the problem by removing references to the nonexistent drive in your Inkscape preferences file. This file is %appdata%\Inkscape\preferences.xml (as you're using Windows). You can delete this file entirely if you don't mind losing any other Inks...

Re: Duplicate Object changes color of original object
This is presumably because the colour is a shared gradient. If you copy and paste the original, rather than duplicating it, then the copy should have its own gradient, and you can change it without affecting the original.

Re: Clearing Inkscape's recent file history
There should be a file called .recently-used.xbel in your home directory. Deleting this should clear Inkscape's recent history, but may also clear the recent history for some other applications, such as GIMP. It's an XML file, so if you know what you're doing you can selectively delete the Inkscape ...

Re: After Trace Bitmap, attempting to separate elements
It looks like you need to use Break Apart (on the Path menu). This is likely to break some letters into multiple paths (e.g., an inner path and an outer path for the letter O), which will also mess up the way they display, but you can fix this using Combine (also on the Path menu) on each broken let...

Re: Question for the english majors...word pronunciation?
Which brings me back to my original question, why aren't they both said with a long "a"? I don't know the answer to this question, but there's nothing unusual about opacity in this respect - shortening of a vowel before -ity is a normal occurrence, e.g., sanity (compared with sane ), vani...

Re: help me with curved text
Using the text tool, put the cursor between two letters. Then hold down the Alt key and use the left and right arrow keys to adjust the spacing. (If you're on a Mac, this may not work. In this case you can use the horizontal kerning setting on the toolbar - icon looks like A|A.) The above is for ker...

Maybe you've set the pencil shape (on the tool bar) to "Ellipse". If so, then try changing it back to "None".

Re: Handling WMF chart (geanerated by MSPowerPoint) into Ink
Bars of the same colour form a single path. (You can tell it's a single path, rather than a group, by looking at the status line.) Use Break Apart (on the Path menu) to split the path into separate paths for each bar.

Re: font editor: width of individual glyphs
They give each character the right amount of space on each side so that most pairs don't require kerning. I think neonic is asking how to give the right amount of space, using Inkscape font editor. Yes, though it's not possible as far as I can see. You can change the advance width for a glyph in th...

Re: font editor: width of individual glyphs
Type designers don't really add kerning for every possible pair. They give each character the right amount of space on each side so that most pairs don't require kerning. To take a random example, the version of Times New Roman that I have here (that came with Windows XP) has kerning for 867 pairs. ...

Re: Help: licensing for fonts?
Unless I've misunderstood what you want to do, I don't see how there can be any problem here. You apparently have a licence for the font (it probably came with Microsoft Office, or something similar), and aren't intending to redistribute it or install it for use on a large number of computers, so th...

Re: Inkscape deletes whitespace from my xml attributes?
I think my real complaint is, shouldn't Inkscape be *saving* newlines as /
, so they will be unpacked the way I originally saved them? In theory maybe; but newlines in attribute values aren't needed in SVG, and there's a potential to cause problems for normal usage, so I doubt it...

Re: Inkscape deletes whitespace from my xml attributes?
Why is Inkscape doing this, XML attribute-value normalization . It converts all newlines to spaces. and how do I make it stop? I don't think you can. It's done by the XML processor, and all XML processors are required to do it. Have you considered storing the code as element content rather than att...

Re: Dynamic Line thickness
This image is not mine but I got it off google images to show the effect I am looking for. For an effect like that you should use the calligraphy tool, probably with something close to the default settings for most of the strokes. Methods such as pen or pencil tool with shaping, or the new PowerStr...

Re: Convert .png to .gif
I'm beginning to think that I am going to have to go with using .png but in comparison to .gif files they always seem to be way bigger. In fact, a PNG file can almost always be made smaller than an equivalent GIF file (except in the case of very small images, where GIF usually wins). But the PNG fi...

Re: Angle of Rotation from a transform matrix
For an SVG matrix of the form matrix(a,-b,b,a,c,d), where a and b are not both zero, the rotation angle is atan2(b,a). If an SVG matrix represents a rotation, then it will necessarily be of this form.

Re: Automated Evo trend drawing - cool, but has been downdated!!
The file has invalid path data. For example, one path starts like this: M 50,250, L 50.7407407407407,246.00900448435 but the comma before the L is not allowed (see the section on paths in the SVG 1.1 spec). Presumably Inkscape once accepted these invalid paths (probably accidently), but no longer do...

Re: self made SVG crashes on loading
It's OK to post a bug report on this, since you have a sample file for people to test. I ran your file through Jeff Schiller's scour script, and the resulting SVG file loads in Inkscape without problem, so the problem is probably caused by one of the Inkscape-specific attributes (which scour removes...

Re: setting resolution AND width or height while exporting
Perhaps the simplest way to do it from the command line would be to use Inkscape to export at the correct width and height, and then use a different program to change the dpi. For example, pngcrush has a -res option for setting dpi.

Re: Changing Logos
For this to happen, I guess the logo must be in a bitmap format. Inkscape isn't the ideal tool for resizing bitmap images (better to use a bitmap editor), but if you really want to use Inkscape for this, make sure you use Export Bitmap (on the File menu) to export the result.

In the Transforms section of Inkscape Preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P), make sure that Transform Gradients is checked. This preference can also be toggled using a button on the Selector toolbar (near the right end).
