I just installed this today (OS X 10.10.3 on a MBP 15 mid2014). I too am unable to load Inkscape, just some `plist` messages in the console that I didn't want to bother with. I don't ever get the dialog to choose X11 (I've also installed XQuartz, and attempted to start Inkscape with/without XQuartz ...
