Re: Catalogue in pdf using inkscape
There have been any number of user tests: It's a consitently bad idea to use PDF. It is an exceptionally bad idea to use PDF for catalogs. Further, the example you point to is photographic. Inkscape is for vector graphics. While possible -- a lot of things are possible -- Inkscape is unsuited for wh...

Re: How to Install 48.1 ?
Debian and Unbutu are operating systems, different from Windows. That is what you are seeing available for download, not a Windows version. From the use of Program Files, I will assume you mean windows.
You will have to wait for the Windows version. And the Mac version.

Don't like a program, or feature, go fork yourself. (not a mispelling). Interesting solution. The same solution suggested to UI designers.
As least that explains the engine driving Jon Stewart's ratings.

Re: Heads up on 0.48.1
DC1, you could always monitor http://www.inkscape.org for release info, if you prefer not to read "news" Why? Is it to see the "Duke Nukem Forever" style splash screen? It's coming out, really really, no foolin' this time, you know. What's a "Head's up" -- usually used...

Re: Is it possible to make realistic art with Inkscape?
Tinkering with some settings aside, I would strongly recommend against equating Trace Bitmap, as the first and only step, with the creating of art. While familiar with the camera obscura controversy of Renaissance art, that's not what we're talking about here. What we are talking about with "hi...

Jan 5 on the web site -- 0.48.1 is done . There "were" problems, they're fixed and we're " back on track." Feb 7 -- getting ready to finish release 0.48.1 Things happen. Release dates slip. The mythical man-month persists. A couple of months is nothing. But we are coming up on th...

Re: How to create a flow chart out of concentric doughnuts
(defaults to 15°) You are talking about the tool. I am talking about an addition to Start, End on the toolbar ...which updates as you drag, not after release. Subtracting one from the other to get the object arc: Geeky. Drawing Start: 270 End 330, Start 330 End 30, Start 30 End 90, Start 90 End 120...

Re: How to create a flow chart out of concentric doughnuts
While these are goofy and information poor, and business people should never be allowed to use the word "cloud," I don't think doughnuts are the easy answer. (Unless of course, you use doughnuts to bribe the chart maker into developing an infographic instead.) as long as you don't use the ...

Re: Is it possible to make realistic art with Inkscape?
What I'm asking is, would it be possible to make something like this in Inkscape Possible yes. Probable no. And I have done photorealistic (simple) objects with Inkscape. You can see what the Inkscape stuff looks like here . As you can see, the more intricate, the more time, the less realistic. And...

Re: Think Different. Really.
When Apple surveys a new market, what do they find? With MP3 players they saw computers that play a MP3 data file. Apple decided to help humans manage their music. Not play data files. Other manufacturers focus on early (computer geek) adopters. For these people, complicated technology is like a gam...

Re: 3D Modeling
I have no idea why people force tools to do simply everything. Art of Illusion works with Inkscape, and is used with projects like RepRap . Scripting allows for such things as tessellation . I'd genuinely like to see you try and do that in Inkscape. The cyberspace is the only place where using a ham...

Re: Ideas and inspiration in logo design
This would be an interesting test, wouldn't it? Only if each version was done by an advocate of that philosophy. Otherwise it's a test of how subtly the tester can sabotage the version they don't believe in. In most cases it won't be subtle sabotage. For those familiar with experimenter's bias, a p...

not a well known name like Google. Didn't start out well known. Just made up. Googling meant absolutely nothing until years later. I used to shop at books.com in the BBS era -- pre WWW. simpler is better with logos This is a testable proposition. Nobody tests. The old-fangled Coca-Cola Logo: Fancy. Too fancy. Which tells you absolutely nothing. AND is unlikely to be "enough" to cause you to bother looking it up or even remembering to. Pity poor Xerox. A logo doesn't say it all. A logo is one part of a branding effort. How you answer the phones and how you design your invoices are just as much ...

Re: Do I Have to be an Artist to be a Great Designer?
A little background is in order. My father was a commercial artist. He would make wall murals for restaurants in oil paint which could be fifteen feet high. And of course, he painted on canvas. I started painting my own canvases in oil paint at ten or eleven. So I can provide an opinion based in exp...
