Pardon me if this sounds unrealistic, since I'm not into programming languages, but I was wondering... would it be possible to create a plug-in using python? Does Inkscape understand python scripts? I can't say I'm all that familiar with python, but as I understand it, python is a bit easier to lear...

The reason that Inkscape's interface is different from other programs, is because Inkscape is a unique program, and not modelled after any other program.
