Well, PNG is a raster format, so you probably won't be able to do much with it in Illustrator. And if all you needed was a PNG, you still could use Inkscape. What has the PNG to do with converting SVG to PDF? Plus, I don't see any mask in your PNG (or what was a mask before you rasterized it). Hm:)...
