Hi,
I did not realize that there were javascript libraries for SVG. I am going to try snap.svg. Thank you all for your suggestions and feedback.

Parsing SVG with an external program in Java
Hello, I want to write a Java program that will load Inkscape SVG and parse it. Specifically, I want to be able extract a particular path out of the SVG by its id attribute and do some additional processing with it. This processing may include finding its length, plotting a point a distance along it...

Re: Interfacing to an external program.
Thank you for you quick and thoughtful response. I checked out the auto save feature too. However I would like to save at smaller intervals OR instantaneously whenever something is changed in the UI. This would be nice, but not required I think now. However, in the opposite direction I would like a ...

Interfacing to an external program.
Hello, I am interested in interfacing Inkscape to an external program. Is there a way to get Inkscape to save an SVG file (e.g. drawing.svg) every time a modification is made to a drawing? I would also like Inkscape to be triggered by the external program to reload drawing.svg once the external prog...

Re: Snapping a circle to a path
Additional question: for example a circle is snapped to a line using a mouse. Is it possible to use keyboard entry to then move the circle along the line, even if the line is not completely horizontal or vertical? If the line was completely horizontal or vertical, one could use the arrow keys. If In...

Re: Snapping a circle to a path
Thank you very much. I enabled the button "snap to or from centers of objects" and the circle snapped by its center to the line. The next question is a continuation of the above, but slightly different. For example, I have a circle already snapped to a line, and then I want to snap another...

Re: Snapping a circle to a path
Thank you for your quick response -- I read the page that you linked to. First of all, what I was calling a "center point" was really a "rotation center". The button that I had selected was "snap to paths". I also had deselected "grids on". Second, I could mov...

Snapping a circle to a path
How do I snap a circle to a path based on the location of the circle's center point? I have grids turned off. A few days ago I had gotten the center point to snap to the path minus the circle, but now I can't remember how I did that. Regardless, what I want is the circle itself to remain in position...

Re: circle circle tangents extension(s)
Thank you druban for your thoughtful response. I have since been able to find two subroutines on the Internet, one written in Java and one in Visual Basic, which could be used to find a common tangent to two circles and a tangent to a circle through an external point (like the center of another circ...

circle circle tangents extension(s)
Hello,
I am interested in illustrations that include lines tangent to two circles at a time. See http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Circle-CircleTangents.html

Repeated points
Hello, I was looking at some of the "generate from path" extensions, but as a new user with Inkscape I got confused. I want two circles 1/16 in. across at the end points of an arbitrary line, arc, circle, curve, etc. I then want to have, say four 1/16 in. circles equally spaced along the p...

Re: Inkscape as a string art designer
Hello, Thank you Brynn and FlamingoLady for the extensive and thoughtful responses to my original post. When I posted earlier, I was afraid to include a link, but here is a good one, I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJLQYRiWzjo It is a video that details the creation of a string art owl. I al...

Inkscape as a string art designer
Hello: I am totally new to Inkscape, but I am curious if it can be used as a tool for designing string art. Most briefly, it involves winding string around thin nails pounded into wood boards (at equal heights). There are different ways of winding the string to produce different effects. Strings can...
