Re: cell shading?
The linked post shows how I ended up achieving a cel-shade look. Not that it's the best or most efficient way. :) If you're using both the stroke and the path for your shapes, then look at the linked post and see how I created the red marble (5th post from the top). Someone already noted that method...

Re: Default document's properties.
Setup the document the way you want it, then save it in the "templates" folder. Alternatively, you could edit the "default.svg" file in the "templates" folder, but I'd recommend you just save a new file. Then, when you select File > New from the menu, you'll see your ne...

GAHH! Inkscape is too user friendly!
:D Back at my real job, I was making a PowerPoint presentation, and every 5 seconds I was (incorrectly for PowerPoint) tapping "+" to zoom in or "-" to zoom out. I must have gone through the sequence of Try to Zoom --> FAIL --> Curse PowerPoint two dozen times. :? The whole exper...

Thanks everyone for the comments!
I did end up moving his pocket, and I modified his glass a bit to match the style of the drawing. I guess he's done. Reckon I'll post him over in Finished Work.

Re: Sppon to a Spork Fight
Very cool. I really like the flower-petal tornado, and even the rays coming from Zommari's spoon, which look simple at first, have some nice detail to them. And any work that includes a spork in it is a hit in my book. :D Personally, I don't notice the aliasing too much. I think most people here pro...

Re: coloring pages
I'm relatively new to Inkscape, so I'm not sure if there's any simple, automated way of just scanning the picture in and breaking apart the various shapes. But that won't stop me from offering some advice. First, though, is there a simpler way to do what you want? If the wall scape is going to...

Cool. As you add more, it'd be awesome if his feet were extended to grab the viewer.

Re: Object annotations ?
By the way, there is a new wonderful stuff in version 0.47 : it is now possible to move an object from one layer to another. I do not need anymore to use the XML editor for that. That's nice. ...this is in 0.46, too, in the Layer menu (Move Selection to Layer Above/Below). Or is that something diff...

Re: How to achieve cel-shading effect?
I just discovered the calligraphy tool. :tool_calligraphic:  I love it. So, to answer my own question, here's how I achieve the cel-shading effect. 1. I use the calligraphy tool to draw all the lines (I do this on a layer called "Ink"). Tracing over a scanned image or roughed-in sha...

Sophisticated Alien Mob Boss
My first Inkscape drawing...It's mostly done (it'll be a portrait, hence I didn't concern myself with things like, say, limbs...) but there are a few tweaks required. I'm not sure about the placement of the pocket, my shading is a little dicey in places, and I suppose I need some sort of background,...

Re: How to achieve cel-shading effect?
Thanks for the replies everyone. After reading the replies, poking around the internet for more tutorials/examples, and thinking about things a bit more, it turns out I've been...overthinking quite a bit...! :| I believe all I need to do is create my lines separately from the fills. Then I can use t...

How to achieve cel-shading effect?
Hi everyone. Let me rephrase - I have found a way to achieve a cel-shading effect, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do it (I've seen the look I want in some of the finished works, so maybe someone has figured out a better way...). As an example, say I want to create the "sphere&quo...
