I still have OSX tiger (10.4), so I haven't confirmed any of the following, but from what I've read elsewhere, if you have OSX 10.5, X11 should already be installed. On my older system it is found in /Applications/Utilities When you launch Inkscape now, what happens? You could launch X11 first, then...
