Re: How to choose a specific color's hex code
Ok that worked for colorize. But why can't I get my scans apart when I click on the image and go to ungroup. They still don't come apart.

Re: How to choose a specific color's hex code
I thought if I did 10 scans I would get a clearer image than if I did 2 scans (the minimum) because of what i was seeing in the preview window. But, once I actually clicked on ok to the 2 scans it ended up being clearer than the one with 10 scans as you can see in my pic. But when I go to color the ...

Re: How to choose a specific color's hex code
Colorize wouldn't change the color, it only changed the white areas. If I turn it into a vector image it looks fuzzy. It actually looks better and clearer as a bitmap. But, there seems to be no way to change the color because every pixel isn't the same color. They are lighter around the edges to mak...

Re: How to choose a specific color's hex code
It doesn't say anything about clone or filters at the bottom, but I do have the image selected, or the page rather. I don't know how to select a object like the book on the page, it won't let me. But it shows the fill color changing when I click a different color. It's just not applying to my book i...

Re: How to choose a specific color's hex code
Boy this program is so confusing. Ok, I understand what you're saying but now it's not changing the color of my picture the way it was before. The other day I could just pick a color at the bottom and the picture would change to that color. Today it's not doing that for some reason. It is changing t...

How to choose a specific color's hex code
How do I make something the exact color that I want - It won't let me choose the hex code. You have all those colors at the bottom to choose from and there is a little box that shows the color's hex codes, but it doesn't let you insert a hex code. If I open the fill window I still can't find a way t...

Is there a difference between "open" and "import"?
Seems like they do the same thing. When would you use open instead of import?

Re: Why don't vector layers show up in layers dialog?
the trace bitmap with multiple scans results in a group of paths, not layers as in gimp. Oh yeah, it does say that in the trace bitmap dialog - "Multiple scans: creates a group of paths". There are layers in Inkscape somewhat like in GIMP, but objects can also overlap in a manner called z...

Why don't vector layers show up in layers dialog?
(I'm new to Inkscape, but I have a little experience with Gimp and layers.) I vectorized an image in Inkscape the other day (with the Path - Trace Bitmap process). I ungrouped the layers and pulled them apart. So I could see all 4 layers. I tried this again today, with 15 layers. But regardless of w...

Thanks guys

Re: How to properly save image as a png?
Export is the suggested method. Is Inkscape suppose to have an "export" option in the file menu? Because mine doesn't except for "export png image". That is the only exporting option in the file menu that I have. I do have the latest version of Inkscape - I downloaded the latest...

How to properly save image as a png?
I wanted to take my picture back into Gimp after working on it in Inkscape, so I saved it as a png. I tried doing this two different ways. One way is to go to file and and click on "export PNG image...". I did that but it saved as a blank file without my image. I also went to file and clic...

Re: Help with trace bitmap
There was definitely something wrong with that version of Inkscape that I had. Once I uninstalled it an installed the latest version the trace bitmap function started working just fine (the update and live preview). And I think it must be why I couldn't get rid of that grey outline as well regardles...

Re: Help with trace bitmap
Hmm, I don't see a grey edge when I zoom into the original, not to say there isn't a grey edge. I actually started with an outline, and I used the brightness and contrast tool in Gimp to turn all of the pixels black before filling the outlined image with color. But, I did mess around with a couple f...

Re: Help with trace bitmap
Sorry, you must have replied as I was changing my question. I realized i didn't have the image selected - that's why the trace bitmap wasn't working.
I uploaded an image of my current problem.

Help with trace bitmap
My image has 3 colors including the black outline. But when i do a trace bitmap, one of the fill colors is showing outside my black outline. Why is it doing that? And why is there a place to check "Live Preview" when it only shows a preview if you don't have that checked? And if you check ...

Re: Why won't it let me use colors?
Thanks for the help Uktrunie and Brynn. I'm not sure why my shapes and colors were invisible. I just installed the program for the first time the other day and they were invisible the first time I used the program. But, now I can see shapes and colors and I'm not even sure what I did that fixed it. ...

Re: Why won't it let me use colors?
Ok, I noticed that I can not see my circle when it's on "flat color". I see no colors at all on "flat color", but if I switch it to one of the other options like linear gradient, radial gradient, pattern, or swatch I can see my colored circle. Every time I make a new circle or sh...

Why won't it let me use colors?
I'm new to Inkscape so either I'm doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the software. But, it will not let me pick a color. When I click on layers i can see that I do not have multiple layers, so I'm obviously working in the right layer. But, for whatever reason it will not let me u...
