Thank you Lazur URH, I will do so.
I did manage to export to pdf, however at 170 dpi only as anything higher caused the problem with the white bars.

Re: White bar across exported work - unwanted, can't get rid
It also appears and disappears in the svg when zooming up and down - there one moment, gone the next, but not able necessarily to be replicated when returning to the same magnification it occurred at.

Comment only
After coming back to this file and altering it to fit the new and even smaller canvass size, the same problem has re-occured but even worse than before.

Re: PDF problems - areas not printing & .pdf failing
I did resolve that issue in the end of the animals just not turning up in the .pdf. However that prob was just one of dozens of problems to sort out; now I cannot for the life of me remember :? what I did to solve it. The method will come to me (eventually) and I'll include it in this topic. I've ma...

Re: Zoom % on opening svg - set it to always open at one % ?
Thanks for the replies.
I found making a small change, and then saving and closing with a much lower zoom, then locked that new zoom info in. So next time I opened up the zoom was opening at my preferred selection. Very happy.

Re: Zoom % on opening svg - set it to always open at one % ?
I've been saving everything at 30% but even when immediately re-opening the zoom will be high.
Off now to read up on the difference between plain svg and whatever it is I've been saving mine as.

PDF problems - areas not printing & .pdf failing
I am saving my .svgs as .pdfs. However, in every instance significant data is missing from the .pdf. Each svg I'm printing as a .pdf has an animal in the background, with text over the top. The animals are not appearing in the .pdf. They WERE appearing before, but were so faint that the first set of...

Zoom % on opening svg - set it to always open at one % ???
Is it possible to have every svg open at the same zoom % ?
Lately mine have been opening at huge random zooms, taking a very long time to load up, enough time for me to walk away and boil a kettle and a make a cuppa.

Re: OPACITY - Get control back on opacity
"Somehow during your working, the object opacity turned into the alpha channel of the fills values." Is that able to be turned back to normal? I'm afraid the rest is above me - even after 5-hours googliing what each little bit means it's well above me. ie: interpolate. group extension. he...

Re: White border around pdf
Several days later and I'm still getting white borders. I've tried: * Set pdf canvas to be around the svg, after setting canvass to the same size and * EDIT - Fit page to selection or drawing and * FILE / SAVE AS / Save as File Type pdf / SAVE / Portable Document Format....see screen grab. And clues...

Re: DPI
On to it now - flagging a little tho after 12-hours at it today. 12-hours in Inkscape and I can create a huge piece of work I'm delighted with, but then it takes about 200 hundred hours to figure out how to get that onto a book site. When I finally manage it I'll post the steps. 7 weekends in a row ...

Re: White border around pdf
No, I didn't set anything on the canvas - I followed a tutorial on YouTube that said ignore the canvas in the middle. It's caused me a few hiccups/shocks taking that advice I can tell you. But I knew no better back then.
I'll follow your instructions.

"In this situation exporting to png images would be better in my opinion." I mastered producing gorgeous clean pngs - but the new book site don't want them. (AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!) They want pdfs. Can I turn a nice clean png into a pdf? Will that turn out sharper/better? "keep in mind th...

Re: White border around pdf
Thanks Lazur URH. I'm managing to save my work as a pdf generated from Inkscape now. The finished pdf certainly has large white borders around the desired pdf content. Is there a way to save my work as a pdf without those borders? Lots of hunting around and googling but I haven't yet found a fix ins...

White border around pdf
Playing all day with pdf. (I can pdf everything it seems except Inkscape, however I've posted that prob up elsewhere.) While creating pdfs they all emerge with a white border. "3. Why is the save as PDF function in Inkscape not working for you?" I have no idea. 8-hours of hunting the internet and I can't find anything that gives a step by step guide on saving as a pdf - not even the Inkscape manual. Some box is probably not ticked - maybe. Finding it is like loo...

I'm attempting to make a pdf out of an svg. My method: 1. Open svg. 2. Select FILE / PRINT / General Tab / PDF Complete / Print. 3. Inkscape will go into a state of "Not Responding" for about 5-minutes. 4. Then a message will come up saying "Location is not available. Filename refers ...

Re: DPI
Thanks Rich 2005, I had been struggling for hours with how to import - was looking for the word import. I haven't used GIMP before. Main prob is I'm running out of time, life has totally stalled trying to sort this out. I had no idea I'd run into the quality issue with Bookemon's online post-publish...
