Re: zigzag gradient
Hi Lazur! Are the gaps just on the screen or would they be seen on a printout? Because overlapping is more awkward when I'm drawing and snapping to a grid. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to switching anti-aliasing off? That's a good cheat, thank you. But possibly not worth the effort and woul...

Re: double-clicking to add node problems
Moini: I hadn't been on the forum for a while so forgot to update my signature, really sorry. I've changed it now. brynn: I wouldn't be suprised if the svg is huge, but maybe it was just the way I was trying to attach the file. Bravo for remembering! Ohhh, so it's not that part of paths can't have n...

Re: selecting objects from multiple groups
Lazur URH: I found it difficult the list time I tried working with clones so I tend to just duplicate the objects myself, but maybe I'll be brave and see if I can easily reproduce the desired outcome that way. Actually, I'll do that right now......arghhhhh it's so complicated!! But it's probably har...

zigzag gradient
I've created a linear gradient and then duplicated, flipped etc to make it look like the gradient follws a zigzag line, but 1) is it possible do this with one gradient and 2) if not then how do I get rid of those pesky white lines between the duplications?

Re: double-clicking to add node problems
brynn: The hand seems to appear and disappear at will as I move over the path; why does it do this? I made sure the hand was showing when I doubled-clicked but still no node added. I hardly even know that LPEs exist so definitely not on this project. What do you mean about a line being part of a pat...

Re: selecting objects from multiple groups
Lazur: The feathers are indeed groups themselves (with a group of circles in there too): can you tell I like grouping things! I don't understand how using the find tool would help in this situation though.... Moini: That would work if I wanted to group all the blues together but I had grouped each d...

Re: double-clicking to add node problems
I'm sorry that I'm not explaining the problem very well; I've got the path selected already and I'm double-clicking with the node tool but a node isn't being created under the arrow. But if I copy the path that I'm trying to change in to a new document and double-click with the node tool then a new ...

selecting objects from multiple groups
I might be trying to do something impossible or I might just be thinking that it's more complicated than it is, but I wanted to check before I decide to give in and ungroup everything instead, which would be a nightmare! I created a small example of what I'm working on but the file was too large so ...

double-clicking to add node problems
I was trying to create an example to post a question but came across another problem in the meantime! I'm trying to add a node under the mouse but it's not working. But when I copied the path to a new document and double-clicked, it worked. Is the document glitchy or is it to do with grouping, or am...

Re: Scaling doesn't seem completely accurate.
I hadn't thought of that, but I don't think it is applicable; I have a background behind everything which is the size of an A4 page with no stroke, so surely that shouldn't be causing the issue. And I have many objects but I grouped them before scaling, or is that what could be causing the minor err...

Re: Scaling doesn't seem completely accurate.
So I'm not doing anything wrong?
But if A5 is half A4 then shouldn't the width be 148.5mm?
And even changing the width to 148.5 produced a slightly off height at 210.021.
Thanks for the work-around, though I'm still concerned about why I even need one.

Scaling doesn't seem completely accurate.
I've made an A4 poster and want to scale it down to A5. I made sure the proportion padlock by the width and height boxes was turned on, changed the width to 148mm but the height didn't change to 210mm. It's less than 1mm out, at 209.314, but it shouldn't be out at all, right? I'm probably doing some...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
I have attempted to colour them in in the past but I didn't spend enough time learning what colours go best because they often ended up looking quite childish when I tried so I gave up! I'd be interested to see how you coloured them in though. You should; it's fun! I had a look at that post, but I w...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
Correction: sounds like an large, vast lot of variables! It really doesn't make sense why pixelsnap doesn't snap every node, but I suppose there must be some reason or logic it in. I wouldn't draw without snapping, at least not for the sort of things I 'draw' usually. As long as the shape I'm duplic...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
Very confusing indeed! Though the picture and your clear explanation definitely helped, thank you. So which version would you say is more correct/accurate then; having the nodes aligned to the whole or half pixel? So the extension did make a difference to the left one by moving the lines on to the h...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
Lazur: Did it do the same for you in snapping the nodes on the x-axis but not the y-axis? The search for 'pixelsnap' only returned one result, which wasn't relevant. But I've never searched for or reported a bug before so I'm probably not be the best person to do so. brynn: so if it doesn't snap all...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
That is correct. The nodes don't miss the grid, unless I've purposely turned off snapping, which is usually when I manage to accidentally nudge objects and so then they aren't accurately placed on the grid intersections anymore. For the purpose of trying Lazur's technique, I drew two shapes (with sn...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
Ohhh, I saw the comma in "3,543307087" and forgot that it's used in place of a fullstop so interpreted it as "3,543,307,087"; what a numpty mistake!! I tried that on a small scale and it's not a good suggestion and method, thank you. But either I'm doing something wrong or being ...

Re: autosave files
And that would help, how? I'm not very tech savvy, sorry! Opening the files in internet explorer seems to work, except that often the documents are much bigger than the standard A4 that I start with so only a small section is shown. That is if there is even anything on the area where the A4 page wou...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
That's a lot of pixels!
I don't understand the 225,4/90", sorry.
So what happens if I then want to enlarge it again to keep drawing?
That would be amazing if it could.....

autosave files
Inkscape has been crashing loads with my current project (probably because my computer just can't handle the file sizes and big operations). Some times inkscape will manage to save a copy when it crashes, but not always, and unfortunately the files have been corrupted once or twice as well. I have a...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
Lazur: Pixelsnap looks handy, but unfortunately, like Brynn said, I don't draw on a pixel grid. Usually I set the grid like graph paper, so 1mm squares. What do you mean by a bit of scaling though?
Sorry for not replying sooner.

Re: Can't pick colour from one bitmap but can from another
Brynn: yes, I have a wacom but it does the same thing when I use a normal mouse too. As for changing the preferences, it sounds risky and I agree that it would be a last ditch attempt! ragstian: that is definitely useful to know, though I'd probably manage to mess it up somehow, so might not risk th...

Re: Can I align all nodes to their nearest grid intersection
I really wanted there to be some clever code or trick or extension but ah well!! I've tried cloning a little before but the procces felt long and tricky; maybe I'll have to put in a bit of practice and see if it can make drawing any quicker, though I agree about the percentage annoyance. And I'm not...

Screen magnifiers: no clue so probably not.
Native display resolution: I think so.....
Dual monitors: nope, just one screen.
