I don't mean to give this a bump, but I am really trying to get perspective working and so far the suggestions in this thread haven't gotten it working. Though, I do appreciate your generous assistance everybody!

Well, I figured that part out. I found Nicu's tutorial on reflecting text. He uses a mask in that and that worked perfectly for what I needed. I just made a white rectangle and a smaller black one inside and used a big blur on it and grouped them and put it over the other layers and did Group > Mask...

I run 0.46 on Ubuntu Hardy and XP. Perspective will not work with either. I have all dependencies satisfied in Ubuntu.
