Re: Where do I set CMYK as my color mode?
Very informative ~suv! You are truly a treasure trove of development info. And if I may say, since I've been thinking it for so long, you are an invaluable asset to this forum, and without a doubt, also to Launchpad.....well, to Inkscape altogether. As an ordinary user, I just really appreciate you...

Re: Want to convert TrueType to single line fonts?
Fontforge is free/open source software. I don't know anything about postscript fonts but I'm sure it supports them just fine. Fonts can be tedious but if you have the time, there you go... I like doing that kind of stuff while watching TV or the like... actually helps keep my mind off of other stres...

Re: Want to convert TrueType to single line fonts?
Single line? I can only assume you mean that a given shape is not "closed." You can type in whatever you like using that tool, then convert the characters to paths. You will want to turn off the fill on all of those objects. From there you can edit the paths. But if you mean single line in...

First click "Quick Reply" then click "Full Editor" at the bottom. After the screen reloads, you will see a tab below the text entry box that says "Upload attachment." Click on it. That is where you upload. And while you are typing, you can select "Place inline"...

Re: Incongruent skewing / Foreshortening of an existing object
Wow! You can say SO MUCH MORE in pictures than you can say in words. Thanks to ~suv for that fine example! With that, I was able to understand exactly what I was trying to do and what I was doing wrong. Most importantly, I was actually closing the path I was defining which was completely unnecessary...

Re: Incongruent skewing / Foreshortening of an existing object
I am interested in this topic as I have run into the very same situation where I wanted to create the shadow of a character I drew. (see attached result) kirin.svg In this case, I used some envelope extension to accomplish it where I drew an oddly shaped four-sided polygon and selected the two thing...

Re: need a shadow in a circle
You solved it? If you did something other than what prkos suggested, I would be interested in what you did to solve it. Would you mind sharing what you did? Attaching a short SVG image example here would also be nice. (Interesting that SVG files don't display here the way bitmap graphics do... does ...

Re: Special Image Tracing!
I am curious about this topic as I have always found most of the tracing output I have experienced to be unsatisfactory. In the end, I usually trace everything by hand. It's time consuming but takes the place of solitaire often enough that the projects get done that way. I have converted some of my ...

Re: colors on a laptop
By your description, it doesn't sounds "defective" by any standards a Dell technician would recognize. As for your hardware manager's recognition of the display hardware being seen as "plug'n play" I wouldn't worry about it. It will not affect performance much as it is usually al...

Re: colors on a laptop
When I say "display" I mean the LCD (or OLED) display panel assembly. Add more distance between you and the display and see if the consistency problem diminishes. If it does, there will be less you can do to convince Dell to replace it. If there is no change, you should be able to have the...

Re: colors on a laptop
Could also be a backlight panel going out on you. If this laptop is under warranty, I would contact warranty support on the matter. If you bought it in a store, I would also check to see if this is a common problem of the hardware they selected. This highlights the difference between common LCDs and...

Re: crashing when editing
I need to turn on whatever switch or flag that automatically subscribes me to and notifies me in email of a reply to a thread. In any case, the bug was well described here: Steps to reproduce: 1. Create object... more reliably, a compound object where they are joined to a single path. 2. Use pattern...

Additional info -- I just managed to compile Inkscape 0.48-pre1 on my 64 bit Linux box and tested the rather consistent bug. I got no crash! Seems the bug was identified and fixed.

Re: crashing when editing
Well good. Then I don't need to file a bug report..? I presume that a bug report has been filed? I too have this problem and it is not just with 32 bit Windows. It is also in 64 bit Linux. This is inopportune and a little frustrating. I am currently learning to use Inkscape and am interested in lear...

Re: filling an object with color COMPLETELY
I hate to add to this particular thread but when I started learning to play with Inkscape, I had to learn to appreciate that it was not a program like GiMP in the slightest... well, actually, that's not entirely true as GiMP supports paths which was a key aspect that made learning Inkscape easier. I...

Re: Techniques in scaling
Nice description. I was able to make a block element such that I only need the change the color of one member of the group to change the whole thing. Resizing requires a bit more care but it's not too much work. I have never worked with patterns before so this would be a first for me. Any advice the...

Techniques in scaling
Okay, so I am thinking of creating something like this: super-mario-background.jpg And I am seeing it in terms of objects that can be duplicated and modified and so on. There are elements that I would like not to change size when I change its size, for example, the stroke width or the screw heads or...

This is a terrific thread. Many different ways to accomplish the same thing. Pick your favorite approach but learn them all so you can appreciate different methods for different situations in the future. I wonder how many other ways people can come up with?

Re: Any better way to recreate this logo?
nicely done prkos! When I started the circle, I started with the #3 rectangle which is why all of my other measurements were off. As demonstrated in your lower sample, the #3 rectangle is off by like 5 to 10 degrees and the position of #5 is also off. This is best attributed to the inaccuracies of b...

Re: Any better way to recreate this logo?
Yeah, while that one would take some tweaking and trial and error, its elements would seem to vary only in width and not in length. The rotational range is 270 degrees. I would start by creating the thinnest rectangle and moving its rotational axis outside of itself. Then do the tiled clone where yo...

Re: A better Dark Side of the Moon
I haven't tried this, so don't know for sure if it will work, but I'm wondering if you could use radially tiled clones? And then of course you would not use the entire thing, just a partial "arc" (or slice of pie). I'm not sure how to get the specific colors to be applied to each clone, b...

Re: A better Dark Side of the Moon
Perhaps as Inkscape and the SVG format develop more... Diffusion Curves - if accepted for SVG and if implemented in Inkscape - will help to render such free form / irregular gradients. Well that is certainly worth hoping to be implemented. I think SVG's strength and power comes largely from the sim...

Re: A better Dark Side of the Moon
Thanks for the reference file, I have three possible suggestions, outlined in the attachment.. 1. Once you are finished with the spectrum of colors, to get rid of the nasty lines between the 6 colors of your work. Duplicate (Ctrl+D) the 6 objects this will minimize the nasty lines. I use this whene...
