Re: How can I reduce the colors of a drawing?

Just for closure, this is a photograph of the actual t-shirt. I think it printed on red material quite well. The skin tone is not great but OK. It could have gone badly. Importantly, the club were pleased with the result. And gave me the shirt as payment. Thanks everyone for the help. photo_2017-10-...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

Maybe some people are familiar email lists. Usability wise they are very poor. I work in usability and requirements, where things can be done well. There are more modern ways of keeping topics together. Surely their issue tracker is where this is supposed to go. I joined the email list you suggested...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

OK. I thought that Launchpad "Bugs" were for defects only. And Requirements were covered by "Blueprints". I was unsure which is why I questioned it in my post. It's important that they welcome ideas, and not put up barriers that only techy nerds will get their message across. Bar...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

I have created a blueprint and mock up for this. And attached it to an existing Blueprint that seems to be the same. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/inkscape/+spec/color-palette-management Hopefully it is the right place to put it. Spec and Mock-up is here: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/U...

Re: seeking 3d drawing program - off topic - but don't know where else to ask

I would also say Blender because: 1) You can create sculpted type of shapes. It is very flexible. 2) Geometric (simple) shapes are also possible. So not a showstopper. 3) It's free, so you can try it out and decide for yourself and change your mind at no cost. 4) You can find custom commands to acce...

Re: Ians Stuff

Only the foam could maybe use some more details, some "bubbling". Yes. The 20 object limit stopped that. And I've not mastered Filters yet. I really want to use perspective textures for roads and walls. Maybe Filters can help there. unfortunately Inkscape crashed every time I tried to adj...

Re: Drawing and erasing technique?

The comment that "everyone you see does" sounded as if you dismissed my suggestion irrelevant. Whatever. My point goes in the direction of inking. Where you are more likely to draw it in 2 parts. And some cartoon styles do have a more ragged and gappy look. E.G. Gary Larsen style. Where ba...

Re: Ians Stuff

It's entered into a competition where UK based organisers have a Telegram chat group, where members have a habit of sharing pictures of a cold beer glass while on holiday or somewhere hot. There are people from all over the world there. And I suspect some in the group don't come from a beer liking c...

Re: Drawing and erasing technique?

I've updated the original post with an image to make what I'm talking about clearer.I disagree. When I draw something by hand, and everyone else I've watch draw, we draw the lines as a single motion as much as possible, and then when we go back to ink it we break up the pieces. Or erase the lines t...

Re: Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of node selection?

I can't help but notice in your example gif you drag these line segments FROM THE MIDDLE of the line, and not, say, a couple pixels away from the node. Yes that just a demo of when it makes sense to drag on the actual line. Then the middle is convenient. Your problem is when you want the handle and...

Re: Ians Stuff

This I drew for the Ubuntu Podcast competition. Where the rule says use up to maximum 20 objects. Which is what I did. It is shaded with gradients and gradient meshes. http://www.23hq.com/ianp5a/photo/35021691/original I'm now a lot more experienced with gradient meshes. Previously I'd use blur and ...

Re: Drawing and erasing technique?

Yes, for cartoons the fill and the outline often have to be separate objects. Tip: To make a cartoon more natural, I find avoid using the tricks that Inkscape offers. such as in-front and behind. I have some methods I use for cartoons: 1) If a line goes behind an object, draw it as "2 separate ...

Re: Why Inkscape don't select object easily?

If you read the last comment by the OP in the bug report: Maybe an option could be added to the Selector tool preferences ? I'd say that qualifies, particularly since it was converted from bug to wishlist. Great. But I'd be concerned that that one last line is going to get overlooked once the bug i...

Re: Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of node selection?

I work this way as well... it makes tracing outlines very efficient, as two bezier handles on each end are manipulated simultaneously. Where I find pushing the line super useful, is when drawing a new outline, I'll create straight segments. It's very fast, but initially deviates from a curved shape...

it is a defect in the touch select, and appears to be different from the OP request here.

Re: Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of node selection?

Thanks Xav. I'll give that a try too. I, like you also sometimes directly manipulate the curve. But I have the impression something has changed and it's harder to pick the right things in more recent versions. Making you need to concentrate more in these situations, otherwise you hit the curve which...

Re: Why Inkscape don't select object easily?

Out of EVERY single graphic software I've ever seen, Inkscape is the only one where you have to select the whole objects to select them. So is there a reason behind this decision? There are, in fact, many programs that default to the same selection way that Inkscape does. The rectangular "Trap...

Re: Inkscape does not save panel layout correctly

Yes I've just tested my installation of 0.92 on Kubuntu and it does not keep the layout exactly either. In my case this was with 2 columns. Simple single column cases seem to be OK. The problem is repeatable. I also have problems dynamically adding a pane to the correct location. The preview snap bo...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

I'd already read the manual on swatches and palettes. But that is a function description and not a methods description. Which would have helped. The "save as" description is useful, but a user wouldn't go there when they are looking for palette creation. Which was my point above. The FAQ I...

Re: Managing colours in palette or swatch question

Thanks. That is a much better way than the methods suggested by the helpful people on youtube and other resources, for creating Palettes. The fact that they didn't know about it, - and that it's a kind of trick using swatches, instead of an obvious menu item for creating palettes, - and that you sti...

Managing colours in palette or swatch question

I have a question that, if it's not possible, I'll put in a request: I want a streamlined way to re-use a small set of typically between 4 and 15 colours in a drawing to ensure consistency. I need to do the following tasks on my list of colours: - Add new colour to my list - See the colours visually...

Can't you just put them all in one folder? Thanks. Digital asset manager tools lets you search, navigate, preview and re-use your items very easily. As well as adding new items and optionally tagging or categorising them without a lot of work. These items are can range from a complete artwork right...
