Great - if I use the color effects "Remove Green" and "Remove Blue" and "Darker", I get just the dark red effect I want. Sorry, I'm so used to working in the Gimp and applying filter layers to do this kind of thing that it's hard to get into the Inkscape frame of mind. ...

Thanks, but I don't have the option "Effects > Color > Replace color...".
I'm on Inkscape version 0.45 (Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10).
Do I need a later version for that?

Change the overall colour of an object
Hi, If I start with an image which contains lots of stepped gradients, is there a way of changing the overall colour of the object without editing each and every gradient?
