Re: Change Default Path for Export?

Thanks for clarifying, Moini! So there's no way to tell inkscape to always use the .svg path when exporting to .png? Bummer. My illustrations are usually based around 1 or 2 screenshots to which I add some highlights, notes and bullet points. I usually export "selection" because there's of...

Change Default Path for Export?

Dear all, If I'm not mistaking, my previous Inkscape version used to suggest exporting .svg files as the (absolute) path of the .svg file with ".png" instead of ".svg". That is, C:\Users\ruben\Desktop\my-ugly-drawing.svg was -by default- exported as C:\Users\ruben\Desktop\my-ugly...

Can I set default folder for saving/exporting files?

Dear all, My basic question is this: can I tell inkscape to always save/export files to my Windows desktop and never to any other directory unless I tell it to do so? I've been looking through Inkscape preferences but didn't see anything like that. Depending on a file's location, it seems Inkscape t...

Re: Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

Thanks a million to all who proposed solutions! It turns out to be utterly simple: the .svg files are just plain text XML files that can be opened with Notepad++!! And the source code is pretty readable too. Just replace all instances of font-family:Sans by font-family:Arial . Save, close and open w...

Re: Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

So Inkscape 0.48 had its own default fonts and Inkscape 0.91 uses Window's default fonts? A mismatch between those could cause the symptoms I described? In that case, setting my Window's default sans-serif font to Arial should resolve the problem altogether, right? I'll try and do just that. In case...

Re: Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

@Xav: thanks for contributing. However, I'm on Windows 8.1 and "Arial" is unambiguously present in Window's fonts folder. I can open and preview the font file so I really don't think that could be related to the problem in any way.

Re: Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

@Both: thanks a million for your suggestions. Of course I've Arial installed; how could I otherwise successfully change text back to Arial? @Brynn: it's only after opening files that I see that the fonts have changed. So I can't say whether they changed before or after opening them. @Moini: if you'd...

Re: Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

Thanks but that's not the case. Text that used to be Arial clearly isn't Arial anymore. The font type has changed. If I select the text and set it to Arial, I see the shapes of the letters change back to what they used to look like. Also, text that used to fit in boxes doesn't always fit anymore unt...

Inkscape changes Arial font to Sans after update to 0.91

Dear all,

I've a huge bunch of files created in Inkscape 0.48. When I open them in 0.91, all Arial fonts are changed to Sans. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Thanks in advance!

Object just won't rotate for unknown reason

Dear all, I drew an arrow and now I'd like to rotate it. So I 1) (single left) click it twice, 2) press the CTRL key on my keyboard 3) click and hold the "rotation arrow" 4) try and drag the arrow until it has rotated 180 degrees. However, as soon as I start dragging, I seem to "lose ...

Re: Edited screenshots get blurred when exported to .png

@Maestral: the one you posted looks fine! How did you do that?

The .png I exported doesn't look quite as good. The cirkled numbers are OK but the original screenshot is visibly blurred.

Re: Edited screenshots get blurred when exported to .png

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm not sure.

The thing is that the initial screenshot -even after saving as .png file- is as sharp as a razor. However, embedding it in Inkscape, adding some bullet points and stuff and exporting it to .png is what seems to cause the aforementioned loss of quality.

Re: Edited screenshots get blurred when exported to .png

Thank you for the suggestion. I always use Prnt Scrn too. However, I usually need to crop the "raw" screenshots. I learned that it's best not to crop/resize screenshots in Inkscape so I usually do that in Irfanview before copying to Inkscape. Like so, would you suggest I should 1) paste to...

Edited screenshots get blurred when exported to .png

Dear all, I've been using Inkscape for adding stuff to screenshots for a while. In order to have the .png exports nice and sharp: 1) I don't crop/resize the screenshots in Inkscape, 2) make sure the picture size doesn't have fractional pixels and 3) export at 90 DPI. Like so, I made a ton of nice il...

I created many similar images without any problems. In case anybody is willi...

Re: Copy-paste small section of imported bitmap?

Thanks all for the suggestions! There's too little space to move the balloon to the right. I feel that the width of a single letter is about the right amount of horizontal space between the text and the balloon border. And yes, I know I should use GIMP or Photoshop or Paint.net for this kind of stuf...

Copy-paste small section of imported bitmap?

Dear all, I imported this bitmap but I'd like to make the letters "Data" disappear because they're too close to my text balloon. I thought about copy-pasting a section of the blue gradient of the bitmap over it. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/116120595/inkscape_hide_letters.png I coul...

Text appears too high in surrounding rectangle

Dear all, My problem is basically this: I'd like to center text vertically within a surrounding rectangle. However, when I use the built-in align tool, the text box rather than the text itself gets centered. Please see here for a screen shot. The phenomenon makes perfect sense: the 'tail' of the y c...

SOLVED: How to get better quality for pasted Print Screen?

Thanks a million to everyone helping out! I'm getting perfect screenshots from Inkscape now! The basic answer for me is: do the cropping before pasting into Inkscape (e.g. in Irfanview with shift + c). Don't edit the bitmap itself in Inkscape, just add guides and other stuff. Export drawing at 90 DP...

Re: How to get better quality for pasted Print Screen?

After some research, it seems that snagit is perhaps a better option here than Inkscape. Unfortunately, the editing doesn't go quite as smoothly as with Inkscape but the end result looks better. In a previous attempt, I tried to increase the image size before importing into Inkscape which seemed to ...

How to get better quality for pasted Print Screen?

Dear all, I often use Inkscape to edit Screenshots. I capture them by pressing the PrntScrn button and use CTRL + V for pasting into Inkscape. After editing, I export to bitmap (.png format) and use on some website. The result is reasonable but I feel there should be substantial room for improvement...
