Snap guideline to object
I want to create a guideline that runs along the bottom of an object I already have, so that I can delete the object. How can I do this? The Web has not been useful thus far.

Re: Convert lines to squares
Are you saying you have released that chessboard into the public domain? Do you renounce all copyright claims to it?

What do you do to your SVGs to make the background gray, and can I change it back to white?

Re: Simple problem of filling a shape
Okay, I have a new problem of the same kind. The attachment is a set of pieces for chess diagrams. On the two kings, and on the white bishop and knight, druban's method doesn't work. On the kings the small enclosed teardrop below the cross is still transparent, on the white bishop the two bottom cur...

Re: Convert lines to squares
That board is exactly what I want. Will you please give me permission to license it under CC-BY? And is there a simple way to make all the dark squares' fills white?

Re: Convert lines to squares
How can I create a fill pattern with diagonal lines (as shown in the diagram) that will look exactly the same on every square?

Convert lines to squares
I have this image of a chessboard: http://imgh.us/Chess_diagram_bw.svg The dark squares are formed with lines passing diagonally across the board, hidden by the light squares. What I would like to do is make each "dark square" sele...

Vector Chess Diagram Tools
Chess diagrams are made of a bunch of simple shapes, and there's no reason they can't be vectorized. So, I've done just that: http://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/1k6bdx/images_for_vector_chess_diagrams/. Now all electronic chess publications can have infinitely scalable diagrams! Example diagrams...

Re: Simple problem of filling a shape
It is a vector image. You can get to it simply by right-clicking on it in the first post and selecting "view image", but I've attached it just in case.

I do not wish to change the line width. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-C gets me an error message "No Stroked Paths in the selection".

How can I make the area within the borders in this image:
white instead of transparent? The Fill and Stroke dialog didn't seem to work.

Re: My latest frame by frame animation using Inkscape/Blende
Well done, very dramatic! (I think there should have been a shot fired, but that's just me.) My only other criticism is the sign: "Six Shot Sams' Saloon". Is the owner named "Sams", or is it owned by the Sam or Sams family (six people, perhaps)? If neither of those is the case, i...

Making text appear when object is hovered over
Title says all; I want a tooltip to appear when a user hovers over certain elements in the SVG. I've found various solutions for HTML, but I don't know if JavaScript or CSS can be applied to SVGs.

Re: Improvement
In Shavian everyone is permitted to spell a word as they pronounce it. Those with foreign accents spell according to the dialect they are learning. Simple. There's no such thing as writing with an accent in Shavian, as I have said already. And I am well aware of the purpose of this forum; I am simp...

Re: Improvement
I'm actually well aware of Serbian's two scripts. It's a lot less phonetic than you think; vowel length is phonemic (distinguishing) but not written. And I'm aware the reaction would be mixed if Shavian were implemented. But I think most speakers would be happy to find that their children need less ...

Re: Improvement
New version: http://imgh.us/Matter_of_Preference_4.svg I removed the filters and added rectangles in the background. To clear some misconceptions, Shavian is not a different language. It is an alternate writing system for English. (Again, it looks like I need to make that more obvious, not that I'm ...

Re: Improvement
Really? The idea is ease of readability. I thought that would be obvious from the comparisons at the bottom.
We're comparing those colours because the background of Inkscape when I was making the image was white. And I'll see how it looks without filters. That'll be fixed in the next version.

http://imgh.us/Matter_of_Preference_3.svg I'm no artist. I can think of wonderful ideas (at least, I think they're wonderful) for paintings and diagrams, but my hands won't obey me when I try to make them. Last night I made this little comparison diagram (there's a border on the right side; it's ju...

Re: The Scroll of Scripts
I am referring to its image page. It appears just as I uploaded it on the image page when I view it, on multiple computers. I may have a clue: I just opened the document with Adobe Illustrator, and noticed that right at the Armenian/Georgian area the default page size no longer accommodates the draw...

Re: The Scroll of Scripts
Go full screen and zoom in so the letters take up the full height of the screen. Then click your middle mouse wheel and scroll right until you reach the end. Don't try to derive meaning from the writing; that's not the point of the Scroll. The idea is to see the beauty in other ways of expressing sp...

Re: The Scroll of Scripts
Yes, it is finished. But I don't know why that's happening. When I view it, on multiple computers, there's no problem; the text goes all the way to its end at Hebrew as I intended. Perhaps it's a browser or computer problem? I use Google Chrome on Windows 7. I think it's now 96 000 pixels wide, actu...

The Scroll of Scripts
I'm fascinated by phonetics, writing, and languages in general. So I decided to create a showcase of all the writing systems of the world. I ran into some problems in exporting it, but I solved them thanks to this forum. And this is the result: the Scroll of Scripts. (It won't display for some reaso...
