Looks like you're right! I brought the opacity of the main surface to 100% (it was 44%), and the EPS export is now full vector (although Acrobat Distiller won't convert the resulting EPS file to PDF, but that's another story! :-) ) For me own education, is it the EPS format or the conversion filter ...
