Just to add my thanks!
Oh alright, and one suggestion: as well as font-family, could you add font-size as well?

Re: selection box -- movement dependent behaviour
I'm having problems with Touch Select in Gnome desktop: the ALT key is taken by the window manager - can we configure some other key, or is there some workaround?

View layers should toggle on AND off?
Hi hi, I've searched here and on Launchpad, to see if there is a request to make the behaviour of the Show Layers keystroke (CTRL+SHIFT+L) *toggle* the layers view on and off, like View Rulers does (CTRL+R). My 0.48.2 does not toggle off, only on. Sometimes... you just wanna quickly view the layers,...

can i automagically create paths from guides?
I'm doing some technical work, where I'm measuring along lines in a bitmap. To help in the measurements, I: place guides all over the place, then trace the line of interest with the bezier tool, clicking to put nodes at each intersection with the guides, then use the node tool to cut the path at all...

Re: Display nodes always? Even unselected shapes?
I didn't think of turning the delay down to zero, that will certainly help. I think the request to show nodes of all paths (bezier tool) would be useful, if even a toggle, or an on-press only display (hard to describe - similar to the way the Q key works, in that the nodes would only show while a ce...

Ah, now that is power user stuff. Fantastic advice, thanks again. That'll make it much quicker than trying to make polygons everywhere.

Re: Convert smooth nodes to cusp node quirks?
Thanks for the info ~suv, I didn't appreciate the difference between curved line segments and smooth nodes, la la la.
Does it *really bother* me? Ease up, it was a question after all.
Hmm, perhaps I'm too sensitive this morning.

No, these aren't regular shapes unfortunately. The image in the post at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10382&p=38602#p38602 gives an idea of the sort of shapes.

Re: Convert smooth nodes to cusp node quirks?
Quirk 2: while snapping is ON, and I'm creating a Bezier line, when I hover near a snappable node a node symbol appears and a small piece of text appears at whatever node has been identified. The small piece of text will say what sort of node has been identified. I took a screenshot: Screenshot-Sect...

Re: Nautilus fails to render svg thumb, and then freezes
Yeh, I think the linked image might be a red herring. I also created a copy of this file, got rid of the layer with the linked image, and I'm still having the problem. Attached is the other file.
.tar.gz files are a type of compressed file, and can be opened on Windows using 7-zip.

Re: Display nodes always? Even unselected shapes?
I want to be able to see the nodes when I create a second line that exactly matches (node for node) part of an earlier line (using snap). If I can see the nodes, then I can just click along on each one quite quickly. Otherwise I have to dwell a little, and wait for the little popup text and node mar...

Convert smooth nodes to cusp node quirks?
Hello, I have just created a lot of lines using the Bezier tool, and unwittingly created a bunch of smooth nodes (i.e. I slightly dragged the mouse while clicking, thereby making the node a smooth node instead of a cusp node). Upon realising this, I selected my lines using the node tool, then select...

Nautilus fails to render svg thumb, and then freezes
I cannot work out what is happening. I have an SVG file created within 0.48.1 Inkscape. Whenever I try to view the directory it's in, Nautilus shows a clock (meaning it's working) instead of the thumb, and then freezes. Dolphin (KDE file manager) has no problems. The problem goes away when I change ...

Re: F7 and Zoom
There's also a little known shortcut to zooming using the Q key. The '3', '4', and '5' keys on my keyboard (not the numeric keypad) all zoom in different ways: 3 = zoom to selection 4 = zoom to drawing 5 = zoom to artboard. Actually, I've just tested these number keys on my numeric keypad, and biza...

Display nodes always? Even unselected shapes?
Hello,
This seems like a stupid question, but I'm not very advanced with Inkscape. How can I display nodes (cusp nodes, smooth nodes, etc) for my lines/polygons/etc all the time? Is the only way to do it by setting 'Mid Markers' via the Fill and Stroke dialogue?
Ben

Is there an 'autofollow' feature for making lines?
Hello, I am doing some digitising of a map. To be able to use the polygons in a numerical modelling tool, I need the polygon edges (where they meet) to be exactly the same, and have no gaps etc. In many cases I don't *have to* create polygons for every feature - i.e. I can simply connect lines toget...

hi hi, gnuplot plot is attached. i don't have the exact gnuplot command i used for this, but i think it was: set term svg dynamic linewidth 0.5 size 1000,1414 tom, bit of a hangover this morning, so i'm not going to even try to follow that example just yet. one question though, any comments on how t...

move but not reshape text during transform?
Hi, I have many vector images of simple x,y plots imported from gnuplot. the plots need scaled dimensions, which gnuplot doesn't achieve, but which i can use inkscape to get close to. i want to be able to scale my plots in inkscape without scaling line thicknesses or text size. Line thicknesses is h...

Re: Extensions > Render > Cartesian grid units
Interesting, I've had a look into the code, and think I get it. I suppose I'll need to understand the inkscape coordinate space first, then work out ways to convert between pixels and scaled units - is the default resolution 90dpi? In the program settings it talks about default export resolution, bu...

Extensions > Render > Cartesian grid units
Hi, I have spent a good bit of time trying to find any information about this extension. It's only able to create a cartesian grid with units in pixels. Is it a simple job to allow also the creation of grids in the document default units? any other fixed units? preferably, and sensibly (to me) it wo...

Re: Convert vector lineplot to a data table
thanks tomh and brynn. i think extracting data from the xml nodes is the only way. too confusing for me to attempt for the current job. crazy to think i need to convert a vector line to a bitmap to extract data out of it (quickly). i guess there is no way to set a user-defined coord reference, or re...
