Thanks, i did find auto-save.

No there is never a message, just freezes up.
This is a new machine but the last one did the same and I had the ram maxed out, 4G
not sure how much is in this machine.

I have not use the document cleanup. Are you suggesting I should, or that was the reason for crashing?

that is exactly where i went, there is no autosave option there.

Something strange. I have no auto/save option. I looked threw every preference window, no auto/save.

Thank you brynn, autosave should solve most of the problem.

It does not happen with small files. It crashes after many operations, and lately it has been crashing almost every time.

I have used inkscape on two different Linux systems. Mint and Lubuntu, the program keeps locking up, and no matter how long I wait it does not resume. There is no particular thing that I'm doing when it locks up. I can be moving an object or typing text, or scaling and all of a sudden it is just not...
